Lookin 4 my first

Like the title says, I'm lookin for my first 4 wheeldrive. I plan on getting a new truck by the end of the month. What should I look for or stay away from. I am hellbent on a Green or Black in either a 4door or the extended cab.

I will be doing some light off road hunting stuff but primarily daily transportation.

Not sure if I should go New or get a low mileage used truck. 2010, 2011 or 2012.

Any insight would be great. I have seen some great looking rigs on here though.

Welcome!
Any Tacoma looks good!! I'd pick black and the dcab. I hunt out if my 98 but with the dcab it's easier to pack more in the back seat

Thanks I like the d-cab as well. What about packages? SR5, TRD?
Any options I should stay away from?

Unless you like the hood scoop and colormatched bumpers, go with the trd offroad. Unless you plan on upgrading to a lift then it doesn't really matter.

Also, go double cab. That is all.

My parents have a 2012 TRD Sport and it's nice. I agree about the hood scoop, how well do you like it? I personally think it looks good, but that's just my opinion.

Have you decided if your getting a new or used Tacoma yet?

It's much easier to get to things with the dcab than the xcab. I know when I had my 08 Dcab I put some things in the back seat and left it from when the season opened till it closed. If I needed it I had it and easier to get to and find.

The access cab (esp '05-'09) can pack a lot of crap inside or two people in a pinch AND still has a decent sized bed. Do you really need more than what will fit in here:

And it's a well known fact that black is faster than green.

I'm not set however I am leaning to a four door. I would like to see the differences in the packages. My budget is about $425 mo with nothing down so I need to keep the truck around27-28k.

IMO, based on what you said in your first post, I would get a 2007-2011 Access Cab 4cyl 5spd 4x4. You said it would be used as a daily driver and the 2.7L would get good gas mileage while the access cab gives you more than enough storage for your clothes and guns. Not counting if you have a toolbox.

And welcome to TacomaWorld!! It's addicting!!

Short Bed for the off roading
Not sure if I should go New or get a low mileage used truck. 2010, 2011 or 2012.
If you buy used then make sure it is a Toyota Certified unit. You will get a better warranty then a used truck.
The model code for the truck you are looking for will more then likely be: 7514.
4x4.
4 cyl.
Access cab

Not big on 4 cyl engines. I drive my wifes car and hate her engine. I have had 6 cyl cars for years and love them. I know the 4's with the manual tranny is a better fit for gas mileage but I want the confidence it can do the work. We may at some point be getting a boat or pair of jet ski's and will need to tow them. Plus we have some decent mountains here that I would like to hunt and I want to be sure that I can make it to the top without pinging all the way up.

I went with a 2011 SR5 excess cab 4x4 with the 2.7 5spd. I don't regret getting it at all! It great on gas but If you have a lead foot you may not save a lot on fuel. You need to just test drive them all and see which one you like the best. I payed 20,600. On a new one.

So what is the big difference between the SR5, TRD Sport and the TRD offroad? I like the looks of the sport, seems to sit higher, '12s have the trailer cam, I like the steering wheel and shifter, am I missing something?

So here it is.

2012 TRD Offroad 4door, in "fast black"

I really like this truck. Wasn't sure it was going to happen but with some creative financing they hooked it up.

Hope to get a tonneau cover in the near future.

I really like all the back seat flexibility options with this double cab. I hunt and carry a ton of gear that I would not want sitting in the bed.
