    Hi folks,
I currently have a honda crv and am thinking of selling it to buy a 2012 double cab 4 cyl. I have always wanted a tacoma and would like something more out of my vehicle that a tacoma can provide. I am still trying to go for the better gas mileage though which is why I have my eye on the 4 cyl. I test drove the dc and really felt like it had plenty of power for my needs.

Only thing i'm worried about is not being able to leave my surf stuff in the back bed...

yay or nay? Maybe I have all i need with my crv...just not in the manly way.. ;-)

    The better coast
    Welcome to Tacoma World!

I have heard good things from the double cab pre-runners. Lots of members who have double cab v'6 will say they think that the 4cyl is underpowered but from what I have heard from owners who ACTUALLY have the 4cyl DC, it has plenty of power for what they want to do.

It is a 5 foot bed, you can get the bed extender or make something to secure your surfboards a little bit better.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I second the first post. I've owned a access cab 2.7 with a 5 speed manual for just over a year now. I live in Montana, and go to school in Wyoming, I drive lots of hilly highways and get some extreme weather during the winter months. Not once has the truck given me a problem with power delivery and it pulls way better than any other 4 cylinder I've driven in a truck. I get anywhere between 20-24mpg. But it all comes down to what you prefer, test drive both and go from there! I probably would have gone V6 if they had a 6 speed manual sitting on the lot I bought my truck from, but they didn't so I settled with the 4 banger and honestly, I don't regret it! Toyota has had a rep for making some of the best inline 4 cylinders on earth for years.

Your going to get some biased V6 people bashing on the 4 cyl here . I've owned both engines and I prefer the 4 cyl. it's a solid engine with adequate power. it's no rocket off the line but it's a pickup truck, not a car.

Do you mean you are worried about someone stealing your surf stuff? If so, you can easily get a locking hard cover or camper shell for the bed.

I've got a 4 cylinder 4x4 access cab and have found it's power just fine.

That being said, if you are happy with what you have and will be able to afford a brand new vehicle, hold out for a year or two to see what the next generation Tacoma is like; maybe even wait to see if the Scion truck becomes a reality.

i have a 4 cylinder perfect for my needs threw a camper shell on it and you can haul more things around without having to tie it down i never feel like it needs to be faster or that its underpower. just once in awhile i wish the inside had bit more room got a single cab thats why but its fun as hell to drive
