I took it for a drive and took pics. it drive great, tho I have no reference. went nicely through some mud/sand. anyway...
... dents all over......stuff looks shabby and neglected... and check this out why did someone paint everything in there black? is it to treat or prevent or hide rust? I ask because I noticed this front metal under cover was hanging by a bolt and brittle on the edges under black paint and I suppose the rest of the holes got rusted out.... and what do you supposed happened here? two mysterious holes at the bottom of the passenger door frame. outside was pretty beat up.

the interior was just as bad as the outside but also like the outside and driveability, everything seems to work fine although lastly its got a CEL and if I'd buy it I'd first check that code make sure it wasn't something expensive. so do any of you off the top of your head have an idea about the CEL?

under "fair" condition kbb says 3200. I'll go by that if I decide to take it. what do you guys think? thanks in advance.

 

139k is pretty low milage. looks like the whole undercarrage was painted. could have been to hide rust or prevent it. IMO it looks worth buying (from the pictures) for the right price

 

check it over well. it could have the rust preventor toyota sprayed on them. some of the 1st gen tacoma had issues with the frames rusting out making them unsafe to drive. washer reservoir bottle being cracked like that is typical. again another problem some of the 1st gen tacomas have

 

thanks. so ya like it? I drove it and it was pretty solid. dude wants 5200 for it but he's way off. so anybody have any idea about the CEL? are there any common problems it might be? didn't notice anything driving. maybe some sensor of some sort...

 

sounds like its ok. id deffinatly check out for rust even though its been painted. 5200 seems a little high. not sure about the CEL

 

Does the guy have paper work for the rust treatment?

 

I doubt it, he bought it 3 months ago and didn't give the impression he had much info on it. unfortunately i'm not experienced enough to tell how much rust is going on. I definitely found spots/areas but they didn't look overwhelming and then all that black paint. I didn't see any torn bushings or boots or leaks.

 

I would look into that before buying it. Kind of fishy that he's already selling it after only 3 months of owning it and you even said he didn't seem like he had much info about the truck. The rough section of the frame on the top right corner looks like it would be rust (could be wrong). Have you done a Carfax on it?

 

well, according to the guy, who was wearing a neck brace and every time I've talked to him over the phone he appears to be home all day, he got into an accident that herniated a disk in his neck. and wife didn't want to drive big 4x4. so I'll believe him I guess, but yeah, I'll do a car fax first. btw hey, anyone know of that cheaper service out there now? I might have it in my bookmarks somewhere. stumbled across it i'm a forum somewhere...
