Northwest Newbie

Hello - I discovered this forum while looking for info on the Tacoma frame rot issue. I recently purchased a 99 Tacoma SR5 TRD extra cab from my 85 year old neighbor. He was one of those old school guys who followed the maintenance schedule in the manual, and would only use Toyota parts. All work was done at the local dealership. Needless to say, it is in great condition. The bed has been Line-X'd and it has a fiberglass tonneau cover. I had a set of 11.50/32/15s put on the stock rims, windows tinted, and a new Optima red top installed.

This is my second Toyota truck, the first was a 75 FJ40 that I should have kept but the ride and poor mpg limited it's use. I'm really liking the Tacoma. Great ride, 18 mpg, and great off road. My only issues with it is the hard tonneau and it's BLACK. Not the best color to keep clean out here in Washington State with the amount of rain we get.

After looking at other forums, I registered here. I'll be having some dumb questions in the future, I'm sure......

Frame rot shouldn't be too much of an issue since they don't salt the roads here. Of course it does rain here a little.
