    Hows it going everyone...

I picked up a 2013 Tacoma 4x4 with a V6 about a month ago after getting rid of my Ram 2500 4x4 HEMI due to me starting school and not wanting to spend so much on gas (i got 8-12 mpg roughly but i loved that truck).

So here i am in a much smaller truck but i see potential in it. I didn't get an SR5 package, a TRD package, or the Sport package because i didn't see the point in spending 5-7k on upgrades i really didn't want like painted fenders, painted bumper, back up camera (if i can back up a 7 ton truck this little thing won't be a problem), and 3M paint protection to name a few are something i can easily live without personally.

unfortunately all this means i didn't get a rear locker (only option i saw that was worth a damn because a lift will mean new shocks), and something they call hill decent assist (not sure what that is but i doubt ill miss not having it).

so here i am a newb to the Taco world and I'm trying to figure out what mods i want to go with. i have only ever owned 1 4x4 with an IFS front end (89 4runner) and all the rest were 3/4 ton or 1 ton solid axle trucks so i have not the slightest clew what to expect.
i know that i do not plan to run anything larger than 33s, i want armor, i want a roof rack with lights forward and back (lights facing backwards are great when fishing at night), i have yet to decide if i will do a 3 or 6 inch lift seeing as how they cost pretty much the same it seems. also i my or may not need a winch so a front bumper that accepts a winch would be needed.

so i hope to learn as much as possible about my new little toy and hopefully find gear that fits the 2013s (not sure if 2012 and 2013 are compatible so ill learn that as well).

thanks everyone and hope everyone is having a great night

thanks. my wife already gave me the go ahead for the bumper and all-pro off road has one that will fit 2013s. I'm not going to go all that aggressive. i just want a nice trail vehicle for camping/hunting. i saw a cool rig that had a tent that folded out on top of the truck. that would make for a nice addition seeing as how I'm used to just sleeping in the bed of my old truck on a blow up mattress when i went hunting lol.

so yea hopefully i get some good use out of this truck. the lighter weight will help in some ways. my old truck had to power through everything or it would sink. doing so would cause my gas gauge to drop significantly lol.

thanks and hope to learn allot.

    Welcome to TW!

It's a Roof Top Tent (RTT) you're talking about, and they are amazing. I'm currently in the market for one. They set up in less than 3 minutes, and are super durable.

Personally, I'd do a 3" lift with OME suspension or Bilstein 5100s- the 6" lift will be a DB (Drop Bracket) lift- which isn't as nice.

    Happy searching!

The 3" and 6" Pro Comp Lifts look like they pretty much come with the same parts. The drop bracket your referring too; is that for the transfer case? If so then i agree that the less crap i have to deal with then the better it will be for me in the long run since ive never installed one of those and would hate to have to pay someone just to install a lift.
Also i have yet to get under the truck and check but do these IFS trucks have a swaybar set up like the solid axles do? Reason i ask is because i always took the swaybars off the 2500s i had and the 3500 as well. Wasnt sure if that was possible with the IFS.

Hi, Mike. My name is Mike :D

the drop bracket drops the front end differential and lower control arms down. The transfer case stays put. It is still a much more involved install than a 3" suspension lift.

The front end has a sway bar and many people take it off after they lift the truck and go with a stiffer coil. I wouldn't remove the sway bar with the factory suspension (I wouldn't remove it even with aftermarket suspension but that's just me).

    Thanks for the info Mike

This is the lift i am looking at.
    http://www.4wheelparts.com/Lift-Kit...=1&t_s=38&t_pt=3533&t_pl=1808&t_pn=EXPK5073BP

Someone else said you can get all of the parts seperately for cheaper if you shop around.

EDIT: i just came across this. Im new to having an IFS on a truck so thus is a concern for me in some ways. In here it says that i should use a drop bracket for anything more than 1.5" of lift. I would hate to brake something while out camping. Most of the spots i go to im sure this truck will make it once it has a lift. Might make it stock and will ne checking after payday .

RE-EDIT: sorry about the re-edit. Anyone know why a 3inch lift costs just as much as a 6inch if the 6inch comes with extra equipment? I know on my old truck a 3inch and 6inch cost the same because they used the same equipment. I just dont see why both of these lifts cost the same of one has less equipment. A 3 inch is basically shocks, springs, add a leaf. Where as a 6inch also has the brackets. Definately a new world over here lol

When these two get dropped down, they lessen your clearance- which is the opposite of lifting your truck. DB lift is good for trucks that tow shit, and never wheel (mall crawlers)- but the point of new suspension is to ride well, absorb shit, and to be able to gain extra clearance over shit, so you dont fu*k your shit up.

Do the DB lift if you're just going for looks, because you can get an extra 3" of lift- but if you're going for functionality- do the 3" suspension lift. Just my .02

Yea ive looked at a few ford f-150s with high lifts but no clearance. Used to pull them out with my 2500 all the time lol. I have been searching around and think i found the setup i want.

Going with fox 2.5 coilovers in the front, expedition leafs in the back (from all-pro), fox 2.0 shocks in the back.

Might start buying parts in a couple of months. Ill post pics ince i do

Probably where i got it from. Got sent to Rehab 4 times for drinking a bottle a day or more. Used to love scotch. Now i cant stand the taste of it and have maybe 1 beer a month or maybe wine with dinner. Basically my wife controls when and how much i drink now lol.

I should work on coming up with something catchier.
