My truck gradually begins to overheat when driven at a consistent RPM of 2250 on the highway. It has a new radiator, thermostat, and fan clutch. Please note that the lower splash shield is missing could that affect the cooling? I just bought the truck.

How is your coolant level? Are you burning any coolant? ie, white exhaust, sweet smell?

Any issues overheating when idling or city driving? Or just at highway speeds?

No overheating issues at Idle or city driving, coolant level is normal and exhaust seems to be the normal early morning start up "steam' but goes away after warm up.

water pump on the 3.4 v6 is driven off the timing belt. Waterpump may could possibly be on its way out. Just a logic of thinking idling the motor is not producing as much as as driving at hwy speed. Therefore is can cool while its idling but at hwy speed cannot push enough coolant through the system to keep up with the generated heat. Just a quick thought.

Ok, here it is.. The truck would heat up very inconsistantly, the fan clutch is new but would not kick in, the thermostat is new, water pump replaced 30,000 miles earlier, block test, compression test all normal. The previous owner told me the radiator was new. The previous owner lied, the reason the fan clutch would not kick in is because the entire center portion of the radiator was plugged and not generating the heat for the fan clutch to operate properly. The center of the radiator was always ice cold.

    Thanks for all the help.

With my old car, the fan would only kick on right before it puked coolant. Did you try turning on your AC to make the fan run? That is what I usually did in traffic an it cooled it off pretty quick.
