I test drove both kinds yesterday at a dealership. I'm used to driving my current vehicle an Acura RSX type S so of course the truck was completely different. However the shifting was smoother than most standard trucks I have driven. I personally am a fan of manual transmissions, so I would say go for it!

AUTO for sure. Just as good of gas mileage or better without the hassle of shifting. The second gen auto 5 speed transmission is pretty much bullet proof. But to every his their own. Good luck with the truck, you'll love it either way.
