Purchased a 2000 Tacoma 4x4 3.4L, 280000km (175000 miles) in January, everything is basically stock which I like. Except for a 2 inch lift. Since the purchase I have replaced RH CV axle and seal, new antenna, new front bumper, rear diff oil, transfer case oil, transaxle oil, front diff oil (drain plug seized! That was fun). Rad flush, and of course engine oil twice now. Trying to keep this thing alive as long as I can. Any suggestions on how to maximize the life of this old girl. She is a beauty, rust is starting to show, I have to get on that soon. This site is awesome. Taught me how to do the cv axle

1st gen FTW!

Check to see if the timing belt has been replaced, hopefully it was already done twice. If your truck is an auto, check the radiator to see if it's the original and if starting to show age, get it replaced or get a transmission cooler to bypass the old radiator to avoid the dreaded pink milkshake (where interior wall of radiator fails and then coolant mixes with transmission oil = you will need a new transmission). Get rid of that rust ASAP with a steel wool and then spray on some rust encapsulator, I like the Eastwood brand. Rust spreads like cancer on our rigs.

Welcome to TW!

pink milkshake occurs on autos. You should be good to go. I would change the timing belt but I wouldn't have a heart attack over it. 3.4L V6 is a non-interference engine. Means that if it breaks and valves are stuck open the pistons won't hit them. Truck stops new belt re time good to go. I would also suggest replacing the water pump while you have it down that far. Check the tensioners as well.
