I have a 01 tacoma 4x4 xtra cab and the ac will come on and go off intermittently and i can't find the relay anywhere. It's not in the fuse block under the hood, the only thing in there is a fuse which is fine, and there isn't a relay marked with MG/CTL either. "So where is it?" Any help would be great!

There is another fuse panel under the dash also. May be something there.

Yes, I have already looked there for a fuse but no luck.

I don't think the A/C has its own separate relay. There is a relay for the blower (called the heater relay). The A/C has its own computer for controlling everything.

You could have low 'freon'. A sensor detects low freon, and could cause the computer to shut off the compressor.

There is also a heat sensor (thermister) in the evaporator. If it detects that its about to freeze, then the computer will shut off the compressor.

Yes, I think you are right because last night I stopped by Wally World and bought one of those DIY freon loading kits which has a can of R134 and a hose with a gauge on it, And I hooked up the hose to thee low side and looked at the gauge and it only read 20 lbs. So I loaded the freon until I had about 40 lbs.in it and took it out for a test run, Turned on the ac and presto it worked. Needless to say my wife was very happy because the temps here in the northwest have been very hot for this time of year. Now I can get" My" truck back from her and we both can stay cool. Thanks for the tips guys I really appreciate it.
