Just bought my 1st truck, a 97 tacoma sr5 4x4, loving it so far. Any tips on mpg would help, and good aftermarket parts would be cool.

    2.7 or 3.4?

    Congrats on your first truck!
    this is my first too

I was getting anywhere from 19-23mpg (in the higher range only if i kept it below 50mph) in my Stock 95.5, 3.4, 5-speed when I had hardly any weight in it and had pretty low-tread 31/10.5/15 Discover knock-offs (Mastercraft's)
I also use Chevron 92 and put Redline oil/fluid in everything
Try not to take it above 2k rpms to shift; don't rush to get there either: light foot and keep the rpms low

I recently got some Duratracs (same size) and threw 250 - 300lbs in the bed, and now I'm so disgusted with my mileage drop I don't even check it. haha

Unless, we're talking armor, getting into lifts, etc...
You'll find that Genuine Toyota parts are usually way better than aftermarket

Check out the builds in the 1st Gen. Build Section <--- click

LOTS, of great ideas throughout those builds.

If you're looking for good mods under $150 (random but bear with me)-- here's a thread that covered that topic and had a fair amount of posts
