Sooooo, I had a 2006 Dodge Ram 2 door, SLT Premium (wood grain better speakers), 4x4, automatic, 4.7L, K&N intake, dual flowmaster 40 series. I bought it brand new in 06. It had 70K on the odometer.

It was stolen, I am waiting on the insurance.

Anyways, I always wanted a tacoma, and my dodge was an automatic (I have decided that I hate driving an automatic). The dodge also weighed 4,900lbs dry. I was getting 12-14mpg in the city and 14-16 hwy if i kept it at 55-60mph. 70mph + and it would be back down to 12mpg.

    My questions-

    1) Am I correct in thinking that a 2005+ Tacoma 4 (full) door, 4x4, V6, Manual transmission would get BETTER fuel mileage than my Ram did ???

    2) What is with the prices on these Toyotas??? I have seen nearly identical toyotas for sale, but one price is 12K and the other pretty much identical add has a price of 20K.

    Thanks for your input.

True but don't expect >20 w/ the 4.0L. That's reserved for downhill treks in neutral with a tailwind.

    Thanks for the replies

By the Way, This F150 I have as a rental just went 408mi on 22gal City driving! its a 2014 full size 4door 2WD and it pulls hard, pulls hard enough that i dont believe it is just a little naturally aspirated V6. Opened the hood, and there it is, tiny little motor, enough room to stand in there with it. I looked on google, and it has over 300hp.

I guess i have been out of the loop on new vehicles. But an 05 yota is going to be what i will replace my dodge with

Yup, nice to know it won't lose a lot of value...

Take your time looking for a used one so you can get a righteous price...

I found the ONLY used one that has what I want. Double cab, 4.0, 4x4 truck are all over, but all that with 6 speed manual, was like freakin higlhander "there can be only one" !

I found it in Del Rio, TX and it is on its way to me in New Orleans LA!

I will be paying blue book value plus shipping.

Intake ??? Looks like this wont do much good? On my Ram, it made a pretty good difference, but after searching TW, it looks like the taco takes in cold air already -

Volant Cold Air Intake With Ram Air Scoop 2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma and Toyota X Runner 4.0 Volant Cold Air Intake With Ram Air Scoop 2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma and Toyota X Runner 4.0 http://www.volantintakes.com/
If I did this, then I could add on a MAF calibrater or whatever tuner later. (didnt read up on tuners yet)

or just this? Seems to be the most popular on this forum-

aFe Power Magnum FLOW OER PRO 5R Air Filters; Toyota Tacoma 05-13 V6-4.0L
    http://afepower.com/shop/details_new.php?partno=30-10114&menu=gastruck&searchtype=family&brandID=59

But, It is wet and dirty where I live, so this looks like a great idea-

The drop in AFE dry filter is the most popular, 70ish bucks.

From the way this thread reads you don't yet have the truck. If you don't, you might want to wait a bit to see if you actually need anything extra. My '14 needs nothing to do what I bought it to do. I'm not implying I know what you expect yours to do, just tempering excitement with rationale.

^ you are correct. I am waiting on shipping of the truck now that my insurance finally paid me (the dealership has been holding it)

I have not purchased any parts yet. (not till I go over the truck and make sure the maintenance is good)

The only parts I am dead set on are the vinyl floor and the seat covers. They are a must have.

I read quite a bit of blasting on how intakes don't do much good for this engine.

I have been looking over the TSB list, so I have an idea of what to look for. I ran the vin and no recalls. Looks like I will need to do something about the tailgate, as I frequently haul motorcycles, and some of them are heavy.

Well, I put a hundred or so miles on her. No major complaints but it looks like she has some of the usual 2nd gen problems... 3rd gear grinding... The lumbar roller does nothing...The rear leaf springs sag flat...The fuel door has a broken hinge... a crack in the tail light... Fog lights do not come on... Minor rust on the frame...

The leaf springs seem to be the only major problem that will cost much $.
