I guess I misunderstood that stereotype then, but your explanation makes sense. Shocking!

Edit: how far is page 11, really?

You forgot the 'pokin' emoticon. Haven't we had this discussion a few pages back (even by your measure)? But thanks anyway, it got me to look at the thread again and see that my last post did hit page 11

I need to stop doing quick reply because it doesn't reflow the page. That's why I didn't notice my last post went onto a new page.

Hey, did anybody see Top Gear last night? They made an amphibious Hilux by strapping an outboard engine on the tailgate!

I wish I had seen that. If you find it online, let me know!

Haven't found it online, but I'll keep my eyes open. Stupid Jeremy should have won the contest if he hadn't take the last turn too fast and sharp and filled the bed with water and capsized.

I don't want to have anything to do with anything called the "alliance press". What you do in the privacy of your own home is none of my business.

I hope you're not trying to convince us that you only have one blindly idiotic comment. I could believe that there's only one you're trying to justify though.

Well, I got my first door ding. I was driving some guys to lunch Friday and one of them pointed out that I had a ding on my passenger side door. It's small. I'm not even sure I would have noticed it. It was also high, so it must have been one of those jacked up trucks hitting me. I took it all in stride saying that now the truck is dangerous because I don't have to care about the body so much any more.

Then on the way back from lunch I started getting a hard time because my truck has an off-road sticker. Well, the way our parking lot is set up there's two sections separated by a median. The close section was full, so I just jumped the median for a short cut to the farther section. One of the guys sounds like he was going to wet his pants "oh no, he's really going to do it!". It was only a 6 in high 3 foot wide median and I was confident the truck could handle it, still they didn't want to believe I'd really do it.

First of all, even though you're a Texan, my deepest condolances (sp) regarding your first ding. That first little ding makes you feel all sick at your stomach. Then surprisingly, you dont really care about them after that...

As for the rest of your story, you must work with alot of girls! I know the kind of median your talking about, i jump those all the time. Hell, i drive over everything now that i have a truck. and whats wrong with having an off-road decal on your truck? i could understand making fun of an off-road windsheild banner that you put on yourself, but your truck came this way. I think you should park ontop of one of their cars and see what they have to say then.

Well, thanks, but there was no stomach sickness (except for the growls of wanting to already be at lunch). I've always owned used vehicles before that already had that "first ding". This Tacoma is my first one to buy new. I had almost 3 months in pristine condition. I'm relieved that I don't have to slavishly wash and wax it with winter coming on.

Let me tell you about those guys I went to lunch with. Two of them, including the one most incredulous, drive Honda Pilots. The other Pilot guy is a good friend of mine and we razz each other all the time. He was talking about getting new tires the other day. I told him he needed knobby off-road tires and a lift on his Pilot. He responded that he couldn't do that because he didn't have an off-road sticker. I told him I'd get him an off-road sticker if he did it.

Now that 3rd guy. He's compensating for something. He drives a 1-ton Ford dually diesel. When asked why, he said he has to haul some camper shell a couple of times a year. Sheesh

As far as the first ding, this is my first vehicle also, i've only owned one other car and it was used. It didnt bother me when the beamer got a ding but this is different, i was responsible for my first scratch on the truck and it made me sick. of course now i'm driving it down overgrown trails without much hesitation (although those long loud scraping sounds still make me cringe and visualize the branch scraping down the whole side of my truck)

A lifted pilot would be awesome! it would still suck but it would be funny. There are very few peopel that actually NEED a truck like the 3rd guys. he is definately compensating...
