    Hey folks -

I'm potentially in the market for a new '14 Taco, and I need some help with options and such. Since this is the "new person" welcoming section, I won't ask the specific questions here. Rather: are there participating Toyota dealers here on the forum that folks recommend? Sales people that actually know the Taco, front to back?

My local folks are, shall we say: sub-optimal. They know how to search for new trucks, but their knowledge on option packages, etc, is very limited.

So: who should I chat with? Or which section of this forum should I post my questions in? :)

    Thanks!

The people on this forum may not be associated with Toyota directly, however they are EXTREMELY knowledgeable and can get you squared away on what you want and price range you should be in walking in the door

I wasn't sure if this was the right spot to ask such questions. Basically, I'm trying to verify the option packages and availability of the electronics between the TRD Off-Road and the TRD Sport. The former appears to not allow the option for the Navigation system, while the latter does allow it.

This according to Toyota's build-your-own site.

Is that right? If it is, does anyone understand why Toyota did that?

    Thanks for any insight.

These two packages share a lot of things but i think these are the most different things that might matter to most buyers

TRD sport- non functional hood scoop, 17" wheels, ~$300less

TRD off road- rear locker, 16" wheels, ~$300more

Thanks, I'm aware of the main differences and they weren't what I was asking about. I'm specifically trying to understand if there's any way to get the OEM navigation system with the TRD/OR package. And if not, does anyone understand why?

According to the Toyota site, it isn't possible. Were you driving a 2014? Six cylinder with a six speed stick? This is why I'm a bit confused here...

Just because it can't be built on Toyota's site doesn't mean it can't be built. My truck is due to be delivered next week, I still can't build it on Toyota's site. Not a single option for a DCSB 6 speed w/ SR package. You need to talk to a dealer.

Settle down; I was trying to get clarification. Your first "answer" in the thread didn't answer the question I was asking. Then you said something that seems to directly contradict Toyota's website. Ultimately, it's why I started by asking whether there are recommended forum dealers that hang out here. My local dealer doesn't appear to be that knowledgeable.

    Get it?

If I'm that offensive to you, feel free to drop me on your ignore list. It won't hurt in the least.

Try to build it again on the website, but use a different zip code from one of the other regions... (Don't use anything in gulf states Toyota or southeast region Toyota).

Heh, thanks for that! It took a bit of experimentation, but it appears I'd have to order it from a Denver dealer.

    That's... funny.

Read the fine print on Toyota's online configurator:

If I plug in a VA zip code in the upper right-hand corner like 20101 (Dulles), there's only the $4600 Off Road pkg shown, without nav.

If I plug in a WA zip code like 98101 (Seattle), there's the $4600 Off Road pkg and a $5200 Off Road pkg with nav.

Most likely the dealers in your area won't have any trucks with the $5200 Off Road pkg on the lot, but you should be able to get the dealer to order a truck and wait for it to come in.

Yep, thanks for that. It validates my opinion that (at least) the first dealer I talked with didn't know what they were doing. I'll see about finding another.

    I appreciate the guidance.

Sorry to re-awaken a couple-week old thread, but: I found a dealership in Winston-Salem, NC that was willing to put a Taco order together, just the way I wanted it. I ultimately decided on the Access Cab vs the Double Cab; I think I can put something in the foot well area of the back of the AC, to make it level with the flat surface of the jump seats. Once done, my Lab should have plenty of room to move around and get comfortable.

    The truck as ordered:

    • Access cab, 4x4, V6, manual transmission
    • TRD Off-Road
    • Off-Road towing
    • Entune w/Nav
I probably won't see it for a couple of months or so, but that's fine as it gives me plenty of time to sell my GMC.

I have the VIN, but I don't have the truck yet, dammit! It arrived in the Atlanta port last week, and the dealership I'm working with should have it sometime this coming week. Then they'll fill it up and drive it from Winston-Salem up to me in VA.

To quote Bugs, "It's the suspense that's killin' me!"
