    Hey TW,
Just wanted to sign up and say hello. I've been lurking on here for a couple of weeks so far and I really like what I've been able to find on this site. Just got my first red 1997 Taco 2.4L Reg Cab Auto with 189k for $2300 about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. It's my first truck I've ever owned and man have I been missing out on something great. Plus this truck is really simple and easy to work on, couldn't have been happier with my new truck.

It needed some TLC to say the least because the previous owner put wood screws through EVERYWHERE, and I think it was a neglected work truck, hence the awesome price. Since I've owned it, I've done plugs, wires, purelator pureone air filter, new vents inside, rewired radio, new rear wheel/tire (previous owner sold it to me with donut installed and no 4th matching wheel), new antenna, removed bed rails and diamond plate lip on tailgate, swapped in clean pathfinder bucket seats for other POS truck seats he had jimi-rigged in there, got a black gas door with lock from junkyard and installed, and fixed exhaust leak at the cat exit.

My plan is to turn it into as clean, stock, and fuel efficient as possible because it is my only source of transportation to EMT school and my job at Advance Auto Parts. My plans are get centercap for new wheel, 3 new tires, tint, paint the gas door and bondo over where the lock was, plasti dip wheels black, get 99-00 prerunner front bumper and plasti dip the chrome part black (the front end looks like it was in a small colision and the PO cut holes in the lower plastic valence for foglights that aren't there), plasti dip the grill, install non blown speakers, new bluetooth headunit, and change driver door lock.

I have one question, the previous owner installed a new driver door handle and didn't replace the lock in it, hence the key only works on the passenger side and ignition. Is there anyway to get a new lock cylinder made for my key?

Thanks for the wealth of info TW.

    Welcome.
Pull the door panel and remove the lock ass.
Take it and the key to a locksmith and they can code the lock to the key.
