Just like to introduce myself and my truck. I haven't joined a car forum in probably a decade because they tend to make you... spend money. Case in point, just dropped $55 bucks on a BAMF antenna mount...

Truck is a 2006 5-speed 4-cylinder 4wd bare-bones regular cab with an ARE MX camper. Completely stock.

The truck has been in my family since new but has been "mine" for only about a month. I absolutely love this thing... me and my Dad took it out to some BLM land recently and I was blown away at how good it was. My Dad has had an FJ40 since it was new in 1976 and we have off-roaded that thing plenty. This Tacoma felt dammed near as capable...

I'm going to be using it mostly for truck camping, light overlanding, general household utility and it'll probably end up being daily driven a good deal in a year or two. I don't want to go full crazy with off road stuff, but am interested in increasing its reliability in the field.

Here are a few pictures from our recent trip to the New Idria Quicksilver mines:

I really like the shell... it was spendy but I got a screaming deal on the truck so I didn't mind splurging a little to get exactly what I had in mind.

I've traveled in Europe a bit and was consistently jealous with the Toyota 4x4 products they have in those markets. In particular, I really love the 90-series Land Cruisers, etc. I like the idea of a small, fuel efficient truck with a manual transmission that is also really capable off road. The camper adds a lot of utility to it, since I regularly large and irregularly shaped things I'd like to keep dry and not-stolen.
