Hey everyone. I need some help with my tacoma that I just purchased two weeks ago. It's an 08 4x2 Tacoma with 120,000 miles on it. Today the truck died on me on my way home from work and now it won't start. It will turn over and start for a few seconds and I will try to rev the engine but nothing happens. All of the lights and windows and radio works just fine when turned to ON but the truck will not stay idled. I've had the battery replaced and had my wife give me a jump but nothing happened. I'm in need of some serious help so if you've got any advice please let me know.

Thanks! Super excited to be apart of the forum!

Sounds like a fuel issue. How much fuel is in the tank?

Have you had any work done to the truck, other than replacement of battery? Did you drive through heavy rain, lake, or wash under your hood? What engine do you have?

Fuel flow restriction. Do you have gas? Look up the location for the fuel filter on your model/engine. When you find it, is there gas in the filter?

Welcome, sorry to hear about your troubles.

Sounds like the engine starving. Maybe fuel pump is either sticking, or worse dying?

If its sticking you might want to try something.

Get your wife, give her the keys and get her to sit in the driver
    seat.

Get in front of the driver side rear wheel, infront of it, and locate the
    fuel tank.

Now, go about a 1/3 of the way down, you will see that it's
    raised a little bit.

Now the face that is sitting toward you, between the two lower sections,
but not the bottom part, is where the fuel pump mechanism is located.

I know the fuel tank is plastic, but turn around, place your foot there,
and stomp on it hard. do this 3, 4 times.

Then have the wife try to turn it over. If nothing happens, try stomping on it a few times more.

    Beyond that, I don't know.

Attached is a pdf for the vehicle. The Fuel Pump inside the fuel tank is what your looking for.

Sorry I can't help beyond that.

It's a 2.7L 4-cyl. Engine with an automatic transmission. There is half a tank of gas in it.

How long did the truck sit before you bought it? Sounds like fuel filter possibly. Similar thing happened to me about 5 yrs ago. This ethanol crap can gel up in a fairly short time. Good luck and let us know.

I'm wondering if I should just take it into my local toyota dealership and have them look at it. The dealership I bought it from two weeks ago have worked with me pretty well up until now they are starting to get annoyed of me. I've heard that toyota dealerships (or any dealership) charge a shit ton more than regular mechanics. Any suggestions on what you think I should do or who I should take it to I guess I should say?

So while I've been at work my wife went and tried starting the truck and it started right up for her. Very weird. I've never had this happen for any of my previous trucks or cars.

I think that at only 2 weeks ownership this dealership should work with you. Honestly, who cares if you are annoying them. Any good toyota dealership should stand behind product. They did make plenty of money on you. Just my opinion.
