I just found a 4X4 2002 Tacoma xcab for my wife with the automatic transmission. It's not the TRD version just the SR5. She had a 1997 and loved it but hit a ice patch and rolled it in January. she loves her truck. She uses it on road construction site driving 50 miles each way Things we are looking at.
    Needs new exhaust
    Gas mileage improvements
    performance improvements

If it's a 3.4 4x4 auto, about the only thing to do for better gas is sell the truck and buy a Prius lol. My 3.4 prerunner averages about 16.5-17 city

I should have noted it's the 2.7. I just did some checking and see the most important thing to improve mileage is to drive with a light foot, keep the air filter clean and use synthetics. I'm already learning from all of you. Thanks

You could run a afe pro dry air filter. Might help a little. Nothing is really going to make a difference for cheap. For performance, you can do the deck plate mod, and get a magnaflow exhaust. Chris4x4 up above had done dyno pulls with these mods. I know the deck plate mod adds 5 hp on the 2.7. Don't know what the magnaflow will add on a 4cyl
