    Morning gang,

As the title says I'm working with my local Toyota dealer, Burien Toyota of Seattle to order a 2014 Tacoma.
I love my JK, it's goes anywhere and has plenty of power. I ride dirt bikes a lot and pulling a trailer all the time and lack of interior storage is getting old. Pickup just makes sense.

The 12 week wait does sound painful but a Spruce green, manual transmission, access cab with sport package is virtually non-existent.

I've been a Jeep guy for a very long time so any tactical advice on options, price, trade in negotiation or hidden secrets with a factory order would great.

I don't really get the touch screen options either. I'll search but some basic education on the differences would be helpful.

Closest picture I could find of the Tacoma package I'd like. Missing scoop but you get the idea.

My old 4Runner from way back in the day.. And yes, we do a lot of snow camping. Miss that gal, despite the POS 3VZE V6 she was a great rig.

Here's a pic of my current Jeep. Penstar V6, every factory option.

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
If your a member of Costco you get a pretty good discount $2000-$2500. It's worth joining Costco if you're not a member. Good luck.

i would not waste on the sport package IMO coming from a Rubicon. I would recommend the off road package.

what is enticing you to the Sport vs Off Road?

Wow, that's a huge discount! Good advice.

    This is the initial offer.

The MSRP is $31,550.00 Cost is $30,135.00 your price is $29.00 over cost.

Not sure how to add a PDF here but they did provide a build sheet.

    Basically it's Tacoma 4x4 access cab V6 with;
Etune audio plus, (not sure if this incudes navigation)
    TRD Sport extra value package
    V6 tow package.
Few small extras like mud mats, bed mat, door sill guards, etc.

    Basically just the hood scoop.
Seems appropriate for a future supercharger whether it's functional or not.

I'm not a fan of electric lockers.
Had too many issues not engaging or dis-engaging properly in -20F range temperatures.
Toyota may have a proven design, I just don't know much about them yet.

Detroit Eaton TruTrac LSD and ARB air lockers have served me well over the years.

Doubt I'll be crawling around in4Lo with a pickup much anyway, the trails in ORV parks up here designed for short wheelbase rigs like Jeeps, truggies and Sammys.

Basically the costco option is really good, All i needed to do was show my costco card over here at toyota in hawaii. I didn't even have to go through costco.com.

I Went with the 2014 db cab Sr package. I was going to get the trd package but didn't want the extra cost and the rear locker i would barely use over here since its super dry here. If you are going to lift the truck the trd package is a waste but the rear lockers is where they get you.

The touchscreen is pretty good in my opinion. The Bluetooth feature is great and makes using apps like spotify easy and phone calls great.

    Btw nice jeep!

imo the trd package is a waste, the suspension on it is the same crap as all the others, crappy stock junk, the locked results in a smaller weaker r&p in the diff. just say no to the trd and buy your own suspension and locker if you want it.

Yeah honestly the trd package was about 4 grand more then what i got my truck for, i plan on upgrading my truck later with a lift. I could use that money to do a bunch of mods. Plus 4k off my loan helps with my payment as well.

I went sport first and regretted it. You can always add the scoop to an OR version, but you can't add the atrac, e-locker, hydraulic assisted braking system and EBD to the Sport version.

engaging/disengaging in -20F range temps i dont think it is a problem. granted the e-locker is for only crawling speeds. atrac will 10/10 help you there.

the scoop on the 12+ is even less functional than 05-11. On my 04 4runner that had a TRD SC, i removed the plastic covering to make the scoop functional. the tacoma's you cannot. the 12+'s is just a small slit.

    Thanks for the honest feedback.

I've run old man emu suspension on my past 5 4x4 vehicles, including Ol'Blue the 4runner i posted a pic of.

So yeah, stock suspension, tires and rear diff will get replaced. Eliminated the off road package. Love to get a trd Charger but that can wait and sounds like dealer wont roll it into the loan anyway. Read on here the stock touchscreen unit can be upgraded to nav later.thats cool!
Still cant believe the charger kit is only 4k. Even a turbo kit for my jk is twice that.

    So much to learn..

Bellevue dealer has a mica brown access cab i might take a look at.
Getting Jeep appraised at the Jeep dealer i bought it from tomorrow. Theyll put it in writing and take all the mods into account.

I never bought the TRD packages for the suspension or wheels/tires anyway. More so the Sport package for aesthetics, then the OR for the functional features. I've seen the S/C go from 3800-4500 depending on supply and manufacturing prices. When i bought mine late last year it was 3800. Then in Feb the lowest i saw them for was 4300. Good luck in your decision.

It turns out you need to lock the rear diff more often on the IFS tacoma than you do on the solid axle jeep - which has considerably better articulation even with stock suspension. The tacoma's stiffer suspension get's cross axled earlier and just starts spinning, when the unlocked jeep flexed and rolled through.

im going to take a guess because the Jeep was built for flexing and articulation whereas the Tacoma was not. Different application so different specification of spring rates. Even the crappy 3 leaf 05-13 which couldn't bear much weight, probably is still a lot more stiffer than the 2-3 leafs i see on the solid axle jeeps. my old boss' 00 Rubicon had 4" lift coil's that couldn't bear much of any weight aside from himself and his winch bumper.

    nonetheless we welcome the OP!

Test drove 2 Tacoma pickups this weekend. Nice trucks but both were automatics.

Dealer offered a 14 access cab with sport package and nav for 30k, valued the jeep at 31K trade in which covers the tax on my payoff balance. Basically a straight swap,no money changes hands.

I'm still looking for a manual locally but may have to special order one.

    Just something to consider.........
The manuals have been known to have issues and be weaker than the automatics. At one point or another everyone I know personally with a stick has had issues from bushings to entire transmissions needing to be replaced. I know no one with auto issues.

That's too bad. I've always had manuals and aside from a few burnt up clutch plates never had any issues with them.

With the autos I have a choice of Pyrite Mica or gunmetal metallic. Not too many access cabs in the area to choose from at the moment. Spruce would be my 1st choice but 12 week wait is end of summer.

You're going for the access cab instead of double cab to keep the length down? I sure love having a real back seat and no suicide doors.

I never use a back seat, probably just remove them like I did in the Jeep for storage.
No kids, just a fat bulldog and a skinny wife.

Access cab short bed actually sounds kind of bad ass!

I don't know if outside links are allowed here but does this truck look like a good deal for 31K out the door? tax, title, transfer, etc, etc included.
