Hello tacomaworld. I have a great connection at a toyota dealership and he is willing to sell to me $200 above invoice. He also said whenever I come back that offer will still be there. However, I'm trying to decide if I should wait for the 2015 to come out. Do you think the 2015 will be the same/close in price? What about in gas mileage? Also, do you think there will be incentives on the 2014 when the 2015 comes out? Thanks!

    welcome

doubtful on all fronts you posted. in previous years it's been similar pricing, same mileage as nothing has been done to the drivetrain, and there are usually never (or very little) incentives on the tacomas as they always sell. IIRC, the only difference known so far for 2015 is the TRD pro series package.

Be careful what the dealer tells you is invoice. Do your own homework and know ahead of time what true invoice is, then $200 on top of that is good.

Ok, thanks guys. Yea, he's the owner and he's close friends with one of my work buddies. His itemized invoice list is the exact same same as what I've seen on edmunds, etc. It's a 2014 automatic 4x4 V6 long bed double cab with sr5, tow package, and the $600? entune package, for 29,900 including all fees except tax and title.

But maybe I'll wait for the 2015 because they said they're going to start delivering them in a couple months... Thanks for the info!

Personally, I would wait for the 15s to come out and get that additional year of value at, probably, no more then an additonal $500 <<-- $$$ assumption of price change between 14 and 15.

This also assumes that the inv + $200 deal is solid. If not, grab the 14 now.

    I bought in 2010. I think I got a $1000.00 dollar incentive and like .9% financing.

Well they are getting what they want... But in a few years instead of now. Receiving/paying 30,000 all at once is a much bigger deal than paying in 5-6 years (most of those offers I have seen are for 60-72 months). Especially when you consider the standard 3% inflation.

It is a MUCH better option than paying full price in cash because you're getting the cash price, but you get to pay it out slowly over 5 years, so you aren't left with a dangerous 30K gap in your bank account.

If you had the 30K cash to pay but got to pay it as a 5 year no interest loan, consider if you invested that money instead(risky, just an example)? Or just put it in a bank account for 1% interest. Those deals are great for retaining/building personal wealth IMO.

I just really really like 0% APR for 5 year deals. Sorry :p

Your best deal will come from getting a left over '14 that the dealer is trying to get rid of to make room for the '15s.

Since the '15 is going to be the same as '14, it doesn't make sense to wait for a '15.

I got a $1500 rebate on my 2012 in the last week of January of 2012. It was supposedly the largest rebate ever on Tacos and the first time they had ever offered any incentive on a Tacoma in this region (Utah).

I was able to get a TRD TX Pro basically built for me for significantly less than invoice. I'm not saying I'm some kind of magician, but the fact that incentives don't exist is no longer true, and the amount of dealers that will fight hard for a deal have gone way up as competition has risen greatly (even in the always massive truck market).

I have a good friend at a dealership as well and they have always given me true invoice where they make nothing, and they will pick me up at the airport and such, and when I told them the price the local dealership was offering, they said, "Buy it, and don't look back. In fact, at that price you can drive it for a year and if you hate it, you can still sell it to us and we'll give you most likely $500 more than he's even asking."

So it's kind of a matter of timing and what number they are giving you. There are several "invoices" that float around, and there are also incentives that come and go, and dealer holdbacks and on and on. It is still a big game, it just isn't as hard to win as it used to be.

Normally, yes, but $200 over invoice is $200 over invoice. If he gets $200 over invoice on a 2015, he can ensure that he is the only driver, it will have less miles, and in the future, a '15 is worth more than a '14.

How can you find the true no-profit invoice when negotiating with dealers?

It'd be a cold day in hell if they change ANYTHING for 2015. I wish they would bring out the next gen of this truck. Its been the same since 2005. Only changed cosmetic stuff from what I can tell. And for the price, they need to start offering more.

Unless you work, or have a direct contact to the dealer's finances, you won't find the actual dealer cost. Invoice price has turned into a marketting term, as there are several "other" income streams that dealers get, i.e., the already mentioned dealer holdbacks, manufacturer incentives to dealers, etc.

A dealer will not sell a Tacoma for a loss, it just doens't make sense since they sell so well. Anyone who tells you otherwise is "selling" you. There are cases where a dealer will sell at a loss, in an attempt to minimize the loss, but I find it extremely hard to believe that any Tacoma would fall into that category.

    Good info!

There is military incentives, college grad incentives, on my 2013 I got a $500 rebate incentive (non-military)
Toyota doesn't include retirees in their incentive, at least when I bought mine.

I would go for a leftover if you do not want a particular package or color.
My best deal ever was on my 2006 DC 4x4 purchased in March 2007 (yes found one leftover in Vermont).
It was impulse red, SR5, 4x4 DC with taupe interior. I guess no one wanted it & I had cash no trade.
Dealer wanted it gone. Wish I never sold it for that damn Tundra. :(

Good luck with your purchase & welcome to TW :)

    :Amen:

I agree with that first part, just wish there was a way to know.
And I don't know if you are just letting us know or if someone said that but I for one would never believe they would sell something for less than cost. One time a friend of mine was looking at some workout supplement that was like 75% off and commented that they might not even be making and money.... I shook my head. They will ALWAYS make their money.

There are always cases in business where maximizing profit actually contains some items where you are trying to minimize the loss.
