Here in South Africa the Tacoma is known as the Hilux and it is the best selling truck by far - I have had two, the first was a '99 3.0L diesel and I have recently got a 2005 2.7 d/cab(what a great 4pot). We only get the regular and d/cab (no xtracab) and the motors are the 2.7 and 4.0 petrols and an awesome 3.0 D4D diesel (also 160hp but with massive torque - 343Nm @1400-3200)
The body styles are different but the rest is basically the same vehicle - I will post some pictures when I get a chance.
I must say that looking at some of the pictures that I like the look of the US models - almost a cross between my '99 and my '05!!

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
God I wish they would sell those Hilux trucks here with those diesel engines.

As far as I know the underpinnings are the same as in the US but they do have the floor transfer.

I lived in Capetown in 81-83 and we had a 81 Hilux SR5 blue with a 4banger and 5speed. Quite a rock crawler but a really rough ride. We lived in the western cape and got out to Melkbosstrand every weekend. It was a really nice life. What a beautiful country and really great people. My neighbors were Afrikans on oneside and Brits on the other. I really enjoyed the Boers and they had great beer. Oh and and those spectacular women, blue eyes, blond hair and well you know, big hooters. Those were the days.

Here is a pic of my old Hilux ('99 model) during a fishing trip to Mozambique. It had a 3.0 diesel and was a bit of a donkey but you coulden't break her - very strong and reliable!!

This shows my D/cab and my friends 'facelifted' '02 model that came with a much better 3.0 turbocharged diesel(315 Nm of torque). The lights and hood design are different but the rest is essentially the same.
