    Hello:

I have been lurking for a while doing research -- many thanks to all the people who contribute their expertise.

I just bought a new 4x4 double cab v6 auto with a 6' bed on MLK Day, and have now got about 700 miles of winter driving on it (and we are having quite a winter). This is a sweet truck -- great 4wd system, braking, interior, and handling compared to my clunky old Sierra, and surprisingly good traction in snow with the stock Dunlops.

I traded in my 2004 GMC Sierra extended cab 4x4 after 11 years of ownership. The GMC served me pretty well, but required a lot of brake work in the last 15 mos (all lines replaced, all calipers, EBCM, other parts) thanks to Maine winters and corrosion. The frame was looking rough, the cab corners and rockers were starting to bubble, and it would have cost another couple thousand to keep it on the road for a few more years.

My vertically-challenged wife and kids are happy, and the only thing I miss is the sound of that V8 (GM does make wonderful small block V8s).

I plan to liberally apply Fluid Film to the frame, rocker panels, suspension, etc every year starting next fall, keep up with mechanical maintenance as always, and drive this thing into the ground. Keeping rust at bay will be the biggest issue, since I drive less than 10k miles per year.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
You will also learn to love the sound of the Tacoma V6 once you get an aftermarket muffler, they sound great with the right setup! Enjoy and welcome to the forum!
