Unhappy Concerns?

Purchased my 08 Double cab a week ago. Noticed car would lunge forward when stopped at traffic light. At first, thought someone at bumped me from behind. After reading forums noticed others are going through the same problem. This is my first Tacoma. Now I'm worried about all the other issues, vibrations etc., that I have read about. So far have not noticed anything else. Kind of having second thoughts about the purchase. The Silverado was my first choice, but I strongly believe Japanese make a more reliable vehicle. I just hope my tacoma doesn't let me down.

i dont notice the vibration at 20mph or whatever either. my thought is that it might be just the 4x4's...and the lunging is probably from a weak brake application...when u come to a complete stop, apply the brakes harder than u normally would and see if it happens again. oh, welcome to the forum!

Hello to you, and thanks for the info. It could be that I just don't apply the brakes hard enough, but it still concerns me a bit.

yeah...i was doing the same thing...just pushing them hard enough to stay stopped and when the a/c kicks in and bumps up the RPM's, it makes it move.

I've had this problem before with my '99 and talked to a mechanic friend that has seen this in Taco's and Tundras. He called it "rearend wrap-up" and said to grease the u-joints and drive shaft you should have grease fittings on both. I tried it and have not had the problem since. 4 yrs now. I know your truck is brand new but give it a shot that should take care of it. Oh yea use a good quality grease I used a marine grade. Hope that helps and welcome.

it'll be fine. its a new truck and people sometimes overanalyze things. if u've had no other problems the the brake jumping other people have, i wouldnt be worried.

There's a lot of talk about the 'lurch' in the Automatic transmissions.

On my 2007, I've only felt that lurch once....and I'm pretty certain the truck is downshifting. Had similar situations on other vehicles.

If you brake for a stop light or stop sign pretty moderately - and come to a stop before the truck has a chance to downshift back into 1st gear, you'll feel it lurch a bit when it finally does downshift.

If you gradually come to a stop....like I do most of the time, you never feel it do the lurch thing.

Just my 2 cents...
