3rd Toy truck. Recommend it over anything except my favorite gas saver wrapped in fiber glass. The 4.0 liter engine; is it a Lexus generation V6 like the 04 Tacoma engine? Put a smooth 119k miles on it before selling it to a most grateful new owner. Sad to let a good buddy go but my new 06 is mucho tricked and what a ride! Can I expect the longevity out of the 4.0 I got out of the 3.4?

The 3.4 enigne you had is not a "Lexus" engine. Niether is the 4.0. Both were designed to be truck engines only.

When I bought my truck I was told it was a "Lexus engine".....that comment, along with several others, made me choose a different salesman.

    True ...

The 3.4L 5VZ in the OP's 2004 Taco was the 5th variant in the VZ V6 series. It was never used in a Lexus model. An earlier variant in the series (the 2VZ) was used in at least one Lexus model back around 1990 (plus or minus). No other VZ was used in a Lexus.

The 4.0L 1GR is the first variant in the GR series. The 1GR hasn't been used in any Lexus models. However, later variants in the series (especially the 3.5L 2GR) have been used in Lexus models. The 2GR is quite highly regarded.
