Sound from Rt. front wheel area

Gentlemen/Ladies...have an '07 PreRunner, 26000 miles...have noticed the last 2000 or so miles a muffled like rub-rub sound from rt. front wheel area that is faily consistent at low speed particularly when turning left from a slow start...it goes away when wheels are straigtened up and speed increases....my first inclination is that I have a wheel bearing going out...first time to dealer about this, mechanic couldn't find anything but I didn't ask him to check bearings.. any insight would be appreciated..thanks!

I've noticed this on mine too.. I know my tires are not rubbing. I think someone has a post on here about rack & pinion "stops" or something. I haven't been able to find out what exactly causes this. Still searching though. If you find anything out, please let me know. Thanks.

Here it is (that thread I mentioned). Just do a search on: "steering stop cap write-up."
Let me know what you think... I've been perplexed by this sound for a long time.

Does applying brakes have any effect on the noise? When does it happen all the time? When you first are driving, after you have been driving a while? Sounds like it might be a wheel bearing, but hard to tell without seeing it in person.

Oh yeah, Welcome to TacomaWorld!

Thanks for your questions...sound is most notable when I first start out..ie coming out of my garage slowly with brakes applied and turning left...then at the street turning right...seems to go away somewhat the longer one drives but that's partly explained by highway driving with less turning in my mind...thanks again...Larry

Yeah, mine is at real low speeds too. It will NOT make the noise at full-lock and it's only turning to the left. I don't think the brakes have much to do with it.. I was thinking rack/pinion problem.

If the sound is only happening when moving, then it must me something that is part of the drive train ie wheel bearing or brake pads dragging slightly or . I would think if it was rack/ pinion you should be able to duplicate it sitting still. Also if the brakes are applied then that will give some idea to the location because the suspension is loaded or unloaded, putting different pressure on the steering gear.

Heres a strange thought. have you checked your center caps and made sure they are tight and do not have anything loose in them? I have seen center caps cause some pretty strange noises... I would be tempted myself to check wheel bearings for play since it is a known issue for our trucks.

Not the right ft. bearing

Had a warranty replacement of right front wheel bearing and thought it might have helped initially, but not so 3 weeks after repair....the dull muffled rub, rub, rub when turning left continues... the road noise overall is more than in the first 2 years I've had the vehicle...service technician said nothing about brake drag as an issue...any other thoughts folks?...thanks!
