hello can you guys enlighten me on some q's
I am looking at several mid-size pickups to replace my 2 pickups i have now. It will be 6 months out or so before i can afford to get something new. Can anyone tell me some likes and dislikes of the tacoma. I am looking to buy used 05-07 and i think i need to 4.0L engine.
what i need: good gas mileage above all i cosider 20+ good ability to haul 2 quads on a trailer would like to fit 4 people but not a big concern if i can't what if any power differences are there between the recent years. |

Welcome to TW!
If you EVER want to haul four people - get a double cab. If you think 20+ MPG is good, get a 4.0L V6 (the only option with the double cab). Hauling to quads (dependant on their weight) you will probably need a V6. An AccessCab 2.7L like mine can do all of that, but not on a regular basis. There are no power differences (aside from 4 cylinder to 6 cylinder) in the 05' to 08' model years. Cheers!

You're not going to get 20+ MPG with the 4.0L. I average 16MPG with mine. The Tacoma is an awesome truck. I'm sure you would be more than happy with one.

Some of the guys on here are claiming that they can hit 20-21 (US) MPG...

i can get 20 mpg with 50/50 highway and city and driving it easy. I'd say i usually get around 18 or 19 though and have gotten as high as 21

yeah i do. I use to drive teh beamer like a bat out of hell and had plenty of tickets to prove it. its nice having something bigger that i can just casually roll around in. plus mine is an auto which means i'm less likely to drive crazy.

In the summer months, I get about 18mpg mixed city/highway (4.0L Access cab 4WD Auto). This winter fuel mixes plus carrying 210lbs in the bed all the time - I'm down to about 16-17mpg (same driving habits). I've never had it on a full bore highway trip yet so I have no idea what the best mileage would be. The Auto 4.0L is rated for 18-20mph I believe.
If you're gonna carry passengers - you'll want a double cab. The Automatic and the towing package is best for towing - as it includes transmission & oil coolers and can haul 6500lbs. I love my truck! Only had it for 9 months now. No complaints.

thanks for the response guys. seems from the responses i see and searching on this forum the v6 is looking to be high teens. which honestly doesn't fancy me very much. i currently have a 95 chevy 350 wich i use to pull my quads, obviously it doesn't flinch at the weight. problem is i drive 64 miles a day round trip and i use my other pickup (96 sonoma) which on a bad week gets 24mpg, avg is easily 26-27.5 mpg. now i don't expect to get the HP/TRQ of my 350 and the same gas mileage. what i want is a daily driver that has more power than my 2.2L sonoma, but doesn't gussle gas like my 350. i can get 15mpg on my chevy 350, so 18ish doesn't sit very well with me for a new vehicle. i guess what im asking is can the 2.7L pull a trailer with about 1000 lbs at most on it without struggling to keep up with traffic?
