    Hey all,

Proud new owner of an 09 access cab here. Just got out of a bad experience with a Chevy Colorado. The trips to the dealer service dept. were rivaling my trips to work! It's no wonder why GM wound up going bankrupt...

Anyway, the new truck is the best quality vehicle I have owned so far and I'm surprised how spunky the 4 cyl engine is. I'm very happy with everything else except the radio. It seems I am a victim of the volume control issue. It happened the first night I brought it home. I gave a tap on the dash above the radio and the volume control became active again. At first all the bad Colorado memories came flooding back (endless trips to the dealer, etc.). But after I read on here it's a common issue with the 09's, I felt better. It's also a relatively minor issue considering all the engine problems I had with the Chevy. I will see if I can live with it until my first oil change which the dealer tells me is free. Normally, I like to do my own maintenance. Also, the radio does not seem to get very loud. With the windows down, it's just OK. I guess one day I'll upgrade to an aftermarket unit.

Lastly, you guys got any tips on telling a die hard Chevy dad that his son just bought a rice burner? haha

    Mike

What to tell your dad...? Does he not know about the experience you had with GM...? That should be plently enough! Not to mention the fact the evrywon knows that American made cars suck!

    Welcome to TW!!

Glad you found the info on the radio!! I would let the dealer know ASAP as some people are going through a very long wait on getting them changed due to the large backorders.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! I'll take Jester243's advice and get a call into the dealer so they can put the order in for the replacement radio. Regarding my dad, he unfortunately has bad memories of my brother's old Datsun pickups breaking down all the time and rusting out, although some of that was probably more my brothers fault than the truck's. While obviously a different brand and over 25 yrs ago, things have changed a bit. Anyway's, I'll find a way to break it to him, lol.

welcome to TW. haha well i dont think that Tacoma's are rice burners, I just think that they are extremely well engineered pieces of machinery, i mean hey, they are Toyotas haha. n if telling your dad that "at least it is not a Ford" does not work just tell him that you will see him in 200,000 miles and then yall can compair breakdown records!

I agree with you TacomaMuddin2007 about the well engineered part. I had a Pontiac Vibe for a bit (for those who don't know it's basically a Toyota Matrix that has a Pontiac grill, emblems and etc.), but like an idiot I traded it on the Colorado. I guess they say sometimes you learn the hard way.

My dad used to work as a diesel mech. for the PENNDOT (PA dept of trans.) and they had fords, chevys, and dodges. During his time there (80's and 90's) the Chevy's seemed to have the least cost of maintanance and less downtime among the 3. It would have been interesting to have had the Tundra in the mix....
