New here. Decided last night while looking at 4x4's in a marina parking lot that the Tundra's might be wasted on me, particularly the V-8's. So I decided to start looking at Tacoma's again and they most likely are less expensive.
My 4x4 needs are; 4x4, pulling a pup or larger, camping, gas mileage, travel to out of the way locations and camping. Enough room for my DGF and 50 lb dog. Probably looking at a full sized cab (back seat) and maybe a full bed. I will probably not use it as a full time vehicle since I own an Outback.
I'm 67 yrs. old and don't need anything too fancy or souped up. Yes I still breath on my own.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum
Awesome you want a new tacoma and there is plenty of info here on towing (it has its own subforum).
I have the 4x4 Crew Cab and love it (downsized from a Tundra myself).

Cool

I don't plan to get a new one but maybe 2-4 yrs. old. What can you comment on about the pros & cons of downsizing? Also what you might consider necessities for a Tacoma with the main interest in towing a pup?
Thanks

Hi Bob,welcome!.......Sounds like a double cab Tacoma would suit your needs just right.Put a tonneau cover on and you dramatically increase your dry storage for all of your camping gear and stuff. You may want to consider a TRD,as it comes with the tow package......Oil cooler, trans cooler, class IV hitch and wiring,130 amp alternator and heavy duty battery. The max trailer weight is 6500lbs,and these trucks are still very capable haulers without the complete tow package but just a proper hitch and wiring.

The DC also allows you to fold down the rear seats(60/40) so Rover can have his own spot while leaving room for gear or additional passengers.

Look around here a bit and you will find a ton of very happy owners of trucks in every configuration and info on them all.

Just the kind of info I need. Thanks. I'll have to do some research and find out what DC & TRD stands for.

dc is double cab ie 4 full sized doors, similar room to an f150 extended cab... and trd is the special edition model that comes with upgraded shocks, seats, stickers, a nifty electrical socket in the bed and some other things

Sorry Bob....DC is simply Double cab and TRD is an off-road package that includes the tow components that I spoke of.Incidently,TRD stands for Toyota Racing Developement and is the motorsports arm of Toyota.TRD's are available in either "Off Road" or "Sport"......OR's come with an electronic rear axle locker and Sports come with a limited slip rear differential. If you wanted the full,or long box you would need a Sport.

edit.....sorry Burg, you covered most of that
