Hi im in need of a winch that wont break my pockets! for my 88 yota. It can be used or new and i dont care what brand it is as long as it works! my truck is a cheap 1500 truck so i dont need a fancy warren or ramsey which. i found them on ebay for like $189 for a 6000lb winch which i belive would work unless i find one cheaper! Its hard to find used ones i did find a 3500lb for 100 buck on CL but they sold it before i got to buy it :( i would like to get one in the 100 bucks range for a used one if i could. any one got any good links to sites that sale used stuff or decnet priced new ones just give me a reply thanks.

general rule of thumb on winches is buy one with a rated pulling capacity that is 1.5x the gross weight of your rig. say that its 5000lbs, youd want a winch thats at least 7500lbs capacity. Thats bare minimum IMO. I have a XD9000i warn and Ive maxed it out and got it to stop pulling before- my truck is ~4800lbs for reference. Just my .02

Beware....you get what you pay for. I'd get a Warn and look for used ones if you can.

x2 on the smittybuilt winches... i've got the 10k on the front of mine also and know quite a few others that have them... good winches for the price. no complaints or problems out of any of the ones i know... and yes i have thoroughly worked mine out several times...

iirc the Smittybuilt's are just rebranded mile markers so they should be pretty decent. I had a mile marker 9500 at one point, but it was really slow and all the hardware rusted really fast. I prefer my Warn for the money(got it lightly used for only $400. :bananadance: for craigslist!).

yea when they released the smittybuilt several mags did tests comparing them to other big name brands such as warn, ramsey.... smittybuilt held up just fine and the only noticable difference they could point out was it was a bit slower... way i see it is i can buy three of them for the price of a warn so i'll accept being a minute slower doing my recovery.....

so far mine has held up with no problems..it's actually a T-Max winch believe it or not, and i have pics to show. reclocked the clutch handle so it fits better in the All Pro bumper..there it was on the inside of the cover....T-Max

this weekend at the All Pro's Get Hammered event will be the true test of the winch muhahahahaah...rumors of a 4 foot high vertical ledge at the end of the trail :D http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=141937
