how can i lean out my 3.4 1999 trd 4x4. now getting 19-20mpg .new i got 28mpg and that wasn't babying gas pedal. been going down ever since. i tow a 3000lb. boat short distances very gingerly maybe a total of 200 miles a year for 6yrs. only in summer in michigan. no towing for 9 mos. a year. inside the tailpipe is black ,would like to see med. brown. it does not smoke and no check eng lights. it just seems too rich. i know towing can have an effect on mpg permanently but that does not explain black tailpipe. any ideas?

you could always reset the computer by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery for about 30min.

an air filter would probably help. get a pro dry from aFe, if anything it will make your truck happier

yea, 28mpg on ex-way @70-80mph. I think i'll get one of those afe pro dry filters, can;t hurt right? I'm running uniroyal liberator a/t 31x10.50r15lt tires and gps reads 65mph speedo reads 70,so abit larger tire dia. would bring speedo closer to gps but tire guys say this is biggest toy can handle('99 trd4x4). when tires wear out will look for a bit larger ones.thanks guys; love my little goat.
