Welcome to TW and congrats on the new truck.

Unfortunately the new 4.0s have some unique noises to them. There is the lifter/valvetrain noise and slight exhaust tick from the exhaust manifolds. It definately takes some getting used to, but your truck is probably perfectly fine.

    Welcome to TW!

Sorry to hear about the valve clatter. If it is any consolation, my 2.7 can get pretty noisy when I push it to the maximum torque band. I have only done this once, but the noise made me uneasy enough to not consider it again. I plan on getting 400,000 miles out of this truck. :)

Welcome to TW. Sorry I can't help with the noise; this is the smallest motor I've had in awhile and the quietest exhaust.

Yeah it sounds at idle. It kind of reminds me of the vtech motor w/ out having vvtc. I still enjoy the truck might take it to dealer to have them look at it. thanks for the help.

in my opinion (just an opinion) you should stick to one type of gas. long term effects hmmm that remains to be seen in research. so hmmmmm pondering....

I would be very curious to hear what they have to say.

I was told that it has to do the the cold start injector and wiring. But the funny thing it still makes the sound after it has warmed up or been driven for awhile. I told the service adviser and he did not know what to say but "there is not a recall as of yet and the 96 4runner w/4.0 v6 they had last week did the same."
