Waiting on 2011 Tacoma

Getting ready to buy a 2011 Tacoma - whenever they come out.

 

Why not just get a 2010 now?

There could be a change from the 2010 to the 2011. The 2011 could get the "enhanced cup holder" treatment like the 2010 did over the 2009.

I'm waiting to, there's no black manual v6 trd offroad access cabs in the southeast, so they told me I'd have to wait for the 2011's to come out at the end of May or first of June. I've been waiting four months already to get exactly what I want.

the good news is the 2011 camrys are on the lot now, I think the 2011 Avalon and Siena are on the lot as well so maybe you won't have long to wait.

 

I thought I should ask this knowledgeable Toyota community.
Since I have been shopping for a used Tacoma for some time and I'm impressed with the value that the trucks appear to be holding. It seems to be that only a couple thousand dollars separate a low mileage 2007 - 2008 from the 2010. What is the history with Toyota when the next model year starts to ship? If the financing gets attractive or some rebate structure comes into play, a new 2010 might be worth the difference. I really don't need a vehicle for a few months anyway. Is there any logic in this. I haven't been new car shopping since 2003, when I purchased a Subaru Baja. Any thoughts are appreciated.

 

Or wait for the 2011 to come out and get a great deal on a new 2010

 

I still find it hard to believe Toyota wouldn't update the 4.0 to be Dual VVT-I for 2011. They already are offering it in the 4Runner and FJ Cruiser. IMO it doesn't make sense to make two variations of the 4.0 for the trucks (Tacoma & Tundra) and the truck based SUV's (4Runner & FJ Cruiser).

This relatively minor change would increase HP and Torque while adding MPG.

 

I talked to a Toyota Dealership in San Antonio. The Salesman said Toyota is keeping quiet about the new 2011 Tacoma but he said he knows for a fact that it will have the dual VVT-I with the HP to equal the new 4 Runner. With 268 - 270 HP I'm looking forward to it if it materializes. July 8th release date???

I don't think that's a good excuse not to change the motor. One doesn't have to look far to see they've changed motors before a redesign in the past. For example the 1st gen Tacoma they changed the I4 from a 2.4 liter to a 2.7 liter before they did a redesign. Same thing for the new Tundra body style...they updated the 4.7 to be a 4.6, in the middle of it's life cycle, with more hp & torque with better mpg.

Toyota would stand to gain better fuel economy by going to the dual VVT-I V6 and they would also gain savings by only having to produce 1 variation of the 4.0L V6.

 

You change the engine to sell more trucks - then you change the design to sell more the next year. It's called "Marketing".
