    Hey All!

Recently graduated college, found a job in NYC, and finally bought the truck I've been dreaming about since high school. I own a 2009 Access Cab V6 SR5 4X4. I bought it in November and it certainly has come in handy during this winter that the Northeast as endured. This summer I want to spend a lot of time working on it and modifying it. I have a couple of ideas of things I would like to do but I was wondering if you guys could suggest some others. I'm interested in improving fuel efficiency (when driving appropriately) and of course getting some more giddy up out of her. Also, I plan on buggying her on the jersey shore for surf fishing. Other off-road plans include the occasional trip to the NJ Pine Barrens.

With all this I'd like to learn more about the basics of the automotive work, so I thought working on this with a couple of my friends would be a good start. First thing we were thinking of doing was changing the air intake. They have been making other suggestions such as changing the exhaust and someday putting in a supercharger but I thought I would sign up here and try to pick the brains of other Tacoma lovers. Thanks guys. I look forward to being apart of the Tacoma loving community!

(attached is a picture of her the day I brought her home in November :) )

    Welcome from Camden County!

99.9% of aftermarket intakes are a scam and give you worse performance in these trucks. Do NOT under any circumstances get a K&N filter either. The factory filters and factory intake is the best already. If you have to have a intake upgrade I would look into snorkels because at least they are functional when offroad.

Stop on by the NJ BS thread and say hello to the guys http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/north-east/274779-nj-b-s-thread.html#post6791040

Thanks XXXX! What does everyone else think of changing the air intake? Would like to see other people's opinions. Is this okay here or should I just say my hello's here and then post in a different area of the forum?

Congrats and welcome. On the intake they usually do not provide much hp alone but when adding exhaust and some other bolt ons it does a little bit more. Most times not worth the money imo. Now s/charging is instant power and probably the way I would go with Tacoma for really noticeable gains.

My friend who knows more about performance than I do said the same thing about the air intake: that if i change the exhaust as well it will see improvement. But he still insists that it will be a noticeable improvement. My inclination is to not even bother spending money on something that is in obvious debate and not conclusive enough. Anybody use Simple bank? I'm going to set up a goal today for my Supercharger :D:D
