I see many members posting various upgrades and builds to their trucks and I am wondering, are any of you making these modifications on vehicles that are still under warranty?

The warranty is a sensitive subject but it comes down to Toyota care and the dealer making the final say descision. I've seen heavily modified trucks get away with murder and heard stories with other brands say because of the lift, and the extra strain on drivetrain caused it to go out or worse the engine. They can give fault and get out of anything and people can claim they throw out the Magnuson Moss act for warranties and force dealers to adhear to it good luck. But I gave up on it I have a 13 with a 5yr warranty and I now belive that at 15k mi. I should be OK if nothing has come up yet. I just got an ome full lift with Dakar's and I'm not gonna worry about the warranty anymore got 3 ½ years left on it but I'm tired of waiting to mod.
    But mines already paid off!

I had a pile of parts and sawzall blades before I even had my truck! I also know how to wrench and do all of my own maintenance, warranty or not. Even if everything was 100% free of charge at the dealer I wouldn't take it there, but understand that some people have zero mechanical inclination and really need the dealer mechanics.

Yep, if you don't do much wrenching, it's a good time to start learning. There are numerous members with tons of knowledge willing to help on this site! Just got to learn your way to the right forums and read rules and you are good to go. Welcome to TW.:D:D

Not doing a lift or something like that, but in the 18 mos I've had mine:

    Weathertechs
    Wiper delay upgrade
    Aftermarket shift knob
    Step bars
    Fogs (factory style)
3 PIAA crystal ions and lightbar
    Stereo

Waiting to do headlights and D rings.

I know I'm forgetting something I've done but at this time that's all I got.

I had most of the stereo from my prior vehicle. Otherwise I try to shop around and find stuff on Craigslist or here. I do work 2 jobs as well.

Paid off the day I drove it off the lot. Still had warranty. Ask how many cares I had when I lifted it, ripped the stereo out, cut it, etc.

    I'll tell you. None.

Same with my mustang. Two days of ownership tags not even here and ripped the suspension, engine came apart, interior was gutted. The way I look at it is it is mine. I'll do whatever I want and I accept the consequences when shit happens.

Warranty would only be voided on parts and systems that were replaced or modified.

Changing out the suspension would not impact the warranty on the engine or trans.
If a dealer tells you that it will, get it in writing and take it to your Attorney General.

The extended warranty, that is another story, but in general, Toyota extended warranties are handled same as the factory warranties.
DO NOT BUY A 3RD PARTY WARRANTY!!!!
That means buy the warranty from TOYOTA... not the fly by night company offering warranties through your dealer's finance guy. Insist on the Toyota extended warranty.
When the dealer says "But this one is included" tell him that you don't want it... take it's value off of the price of the truck and sell you a Toyota warranty.
If he won't, buy the truck somewhere else.
