Stowe Vermont Recommendations

I’m spending a night or two in Stowe, VT in early August. Anyone have any info on accommodations that won’t break the bank? Also any good local eateries so we can get a taste of Vermont?

Living so close to Stowe, I don't stay there much but we go down & eat quite a bit. There is:

The Shed, a great tap room & restaurant,
Foxfire Inn,
Harrisons,
Mr. Pickwick's
Gracies
The Depot

All have been around for years & favorites among the locals.

The Rusty Nail & Sunset Grill is the local nightlife.

Other places within a easy drive are the Alchemist, a micro brew/great food & Arvads in downtown Waterbury (RT 2) & Bees Knees on Rt 100 downtown Morrisville. These 3 are my favorites & within easy drive of Stowe.

Tourist attractions are

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory that gives tours & free ice cream.
Cabot Cheese & Lake Champlain Factory Outlets
Cold Hollow Cider MIll
all within 15 min on Rt. 100.


If you like to hike & bike there is the Stowe Bike Path, Mt. Mansfield, Sterling Pond and Cottonbrook hiking areas. There is also the Stowe Resort which has a skyline drive & gondola rides up to Mt. Mansfield if you do not want to hike. Smugglers Notch is an incredible drive on 118. There are caves & a visitors center at the top. The Green Mtn.Club also has a great visiting & picnic area & that is right on Rt. 100.

If you head up Burlington (30 min North), check out the Waterfront (take I89 N to exit 14w), there is Breakwaters, the Skinny Pancake, the Boathouse and a Brazilian Steakhouse to die for. Also Burlington has all the traditional shopping and chain restaurants, none of which are in Stowe fwiw.

I agree 100% with Simon's Mom and will ad if night life is what you seek....Downtown Burlington can be fun ...park in the "Garage"...CHEAP $$$ and enjoy Vermonts college atmosphere with an adult twist....

Pricing a room can be tricky BUT after 4 years of "visits" we learned that the "Suites" usually gave the best value for your $$$$...they may not be directly in town but in Vermont everything is only minutes away....

 

These guys said it best. Hit up the Ben and Jerry's factory for sure. Rome Snowboards (if you ride) is 10 minutes from Ben and Jerrys too if you are interested. You can't go wrong with any of the places they listed.
