    I've been toying with this idea for a year or so now and would like you guys' opinions/ideas on it. Ever since I saw the SEMA Taco a few years ago:

    [IMG]

    I always thought the ACSB would make a perfect offroad truck. I keep toying with the idea of going through insurance companies and/or copart.com to buy a DCSB and an Access cab. I'd look for an AC with rear damage and a DCSB with front damage and essentially combine the good halves. In a perfect world I'd find a 09-11 AC in bsp that I could use and swap bumpers and keep my Pelfreybilt since I love it!

    My uncle used to work at a collision center and has a lot of experience in welding and mechanics, plus he's rebuilt more cars than nearly anyone I've ever met so I'd have damn good help through the whole process. Just some points/questions:

    1) Will without a doubt be a V6 6spd. I'd want to do a FJ twin stick, crawl box, lockers, etc
    2) What would all need to be shortened? I know the wiring, fuel lines, brake lines, rear driveshaft would but I think that's it?
    3) Suspension/tires:
    OME (886x, nitros, dakars) with TC uppers? (maybe just stay with LR)
    285s. May go crazy and do 35s since, well, WHY NOT?!
    4) This truck will be licensed to run on the road. Not building a strictly off road beast. It'll mostly be on road when the weather sucks and/or I want to show off :cool: I know it will be an R title so there goes getting any real good insurance on it but oh well.
    5) When it's complete my current Taco will go bye bye. I'd probably look for a DD car (I have my eye on a new Corolla :D)
    6) I'm compiling a list of quick costs:
    2 Trucks= 6k roughly
    new 3rds (locked, geared, compressor) =3500
    Crawl box, FJ case = 3k? Not sure on total there, just a guess
    Suspension= 1500-2000
    Tires= 1000-1500
    Obviously armor then is necessary= 2k?
    So roughly 18k to have a super awesome off road machine. I really don't think I'll ever get into anything extreme enough to want a SAS so I'll just chill with IFS. What do you guys think about that? Mind you this is all a couple years from now that I'd even start pushing towards doing it.

    That truck is built on a regular cab frame.

    If you combined an access cab and double cab the frame would be too long and would need to be shortened

    I'd be cutting them each between the cab and bed. I think they would match up :notsure:

    This is what I would think. Your best bet is to start with a regular cab, then find an access cab body and short bed to put on it.

    The other option is to take an access cab and bob the bed. Plenty of people have done that so the research and help would be easier to find. Of course you would have a longer wheelbase this way.

    I don't think it works like that but I'm not 100% sure

    rule number one of doing a project, double your estimated cost, you think its gonna be 18k your gonna have 36 in it before your done. it be cool but honestly if i were to spend that money id just buy/build a old toyota pickup. you can beat it smash it and not blink an eye

    I didn't know it was on a reg cab frame. (until Corey's post) I like the idea of not having to try to match frame pieces like my original idea and just do as you said and find an AC body and SB and put them on a reg cab frame. Only issue coming in then is a V6 6spd

    ^see above

    *You're lol and I know that was a quick estimate. That had no fabrication time/costs added in so obviously it'll be higher

    Why would the engine and tran be an issue? Buy a rear ended access cab? Just buy Ants truck and bob the bed? Be cheaper in the long run

    And this ^^

    I love my Tacoma as much as most of the guys on here but if I was gonna drop any more significant money into it I would buy a beater trail rig that is made for it.

    He's not selling shit.

    and if he is I got dibs on everything :D

    Our frames are total crap anyway so just buy a cab, throw it on a new custom frame and forget about a bed. Thats where all the tube work goes anyway.

    Doesn't surprise me. Like I said it's a couple years from coming to fruition anyhow, just getting myself into winter mode thinking about projects because I always like finding something to do over winter.
