Figured I would say hi, I'm new....Been lurking in this NJ BS thread for a bit. 11 year Marine vet, lived in the south most of my life, got the 2014 access SR5 4WD when I left active duty in June and moved here to NJ in July for the new job. Living next to the bay in Lacey, and I see lots of Tacos around here and lots of posts from folks nearby. Still stock, looking in to maybe a few things for utility's sake.

Anyhow, y'all seem like a good bunch of folks here. Howdy!

Thanks! I look across the bay every day and covet people who can live out there. Drove down to LBI recently....ate at Chegg and discovered I couldn't take a cruise on the beach because I don't have a sticker.....

On another note, can y'all recommend a good shop around here to do an ARB locker/compressor install? That's on my short list of things to get done. And I don't want a hack job that will end up leaking air or destroying my diff...bear with the newbie here.

Welcome! Came to the shittiest state on the east coast About an hour from me!

Lots on knoledgable local guys here that could do the compressor install... Most work for free or some beer

But East Coast Gear Supply would be the best place to go for a third with a locker...

I believe if you send them your third (truck would need to be out of commision for a week or 2) they can swap everything at their shop and ship it back to you or you pay full price for a new third and gears and locker and then send them back your stock third member and when they get it and its in working order you get a bit of a refund...

Thats what my understanding is... Maybe not the refund part but to my understanding the first option is what jlink did with his front diff a few months ago...

 

I've got a spare rear third sitting around...

 

Cuts all that pain staking process out then... If you have that one laying around when it comes time for me to get a rear locker I may borrow it from you... Im hoping by this time next year to have skids and a rear locker.

You'll come to find out here that most of us wrench on our stuff. Shops are for insurance claims and alignments.

There are a few shops in our area. None I would recommend though

 

Yeah it's been a nice couple days of adventures. Can't wait for some snow to fall so we can get a bit more of a challenge. Although cracking through ice is a little nerve racking not knowing how deep the puddle goes LOL

welcome to NJ and to TW! As for the diffs, there aren't too many offroad shops I'd trust around here but one would be carroll's rod and racecraft. They've done some previous work on my truck and I've been more than satisfied with the results. To save some money as Hunter said, you can buy the diffs through east coast gear supply and they will ship you a fully built 3rd member and then you get a core charge refund when you send them back your stock one. Swapping out a rear diff is pretty easy takes maybe 3 hours tops especially since you have a new truck with non-rusted bolts. I've wired up a few people's air compressors including mine and I'd be happy to lend a hand when the time comes

 

Welcome! ECGS is the only way to go for the diff, and your truck will only be down for as long as it takes you to do the work. Search this site for a few hours and I'm confidant that you will be more than capable to do the install of both the locker and the compressor. ARB locker is the way to go, my favorite mod to date!
