Damn 35mpg and a fun little rwd beater? I kinda want to DD one now too. :p

Though if I was gonna do the DD mod it would likely be one of these:

If I were selling a reliable truck I'd feel more comfortable getting a reliable car. If I were gonna keep my truck and buy a car I'd have no problem with a 98-00 civic coupe

I wasn't expecting to buy a car when I test drove mine...

No offense to BMW owners out there but owning a fairly recent BMW outside of warranty is foolish. Maintenance costs on them are absurd, even just for the damn parts. That said, I will likely one day lease or own a newer BMW, and get rid of it before the warranty is up.

Anything made by a company that has a W in their name is expensive to maintain

It's not as bad as you think. I had the car from 30k -192k, only maintenance that I needed to do was tie rods, replaced the front axle once (cv boot was ripped), brakes, and oil changes. Pretty much same shit done for every car in that range. Oil changes were on the expensive side because of how much synthetic oil you needed but you also did them at 10-12k intervals. Oh and replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter.

    So the Germans then? Haha.

I know two people with BMWs and their brake parts cost at least double what they should. My brother had one of his headlights crack under warranty, the part cost was almost $2k!! because it's an entirely sealed self leveling headlight system. I constantly hear horror stories like this. They put a lot of advanced tech in them which makes them great cars, but the parts are typically proprietary and cost way too much.

That's not all true, my mom just sold her 1998 325i convertible. She bought it new and and sold it with a 140k on it. She didn't put a dime into except normal maintenance. She did have some issues at the end with the top, but it think most of the problem was lack of use and I still don't think she spent a lot to fix it. I like her new 330, it's pretty fun to drive.

I mean I agree the brake pads were more expensive compared to most but they also perform really well too.

I'm not saying they break down, I'm talking regular maintenance costs that any car has. The parts in general cost more. But then maybe that's offset by better reliability.

Semantics, I consider it bought. I likely will buy it out when the lease is up.

Like I said they are great cars. I just wouldn't want to own one that is fresh out of warranty until it's say 8 or so years old and the parts are more common/cheaper.

I hear you man, it's unfortunately the price to pay for a luxury/performance car. I did enjoy that car though.
