I posted this over on t4r.org, wanted to also post over here....So I bought a 4runner, it needed a windshield to pass inspection. Long story short, windshield guy cut thru the vin plate, never told me, he'll maybe he didn't even notice. Its damaged to the point where more than half of it is missing and you cant read it. I get to the inspection, its the first thing he looks at, and won't even touch the truck due to the damaged vin plate. Anyone have any experience with this or know how to fix the problem? Hope this isn't to much of a pain in the ass but I'm sure it will be here in MD.

Well that sucks. You will have to have the vehicle inspected by your Motor Vehicle division since there are several places on vehicle where the vin is engraved. More likely then not they will issue you a new number in which the state can identify your vehicle. in AZ it would be a white sticky placed over the vin plate.

I don't know, I personally have never had to do this just saw it on a vehicle and asked the owner what it was.

There was no cost in MA about 20 yrs ago when I had to do this. I'd say if there is a fee you'd have a case legally against the shop who messed it up.
