Has anyone run in to any issues obtaining a vehicle inspection in Rhode Island after installing a 6" lift?

Technically yes over 4" is illegal. I see huge lifts all the time though. Maybe the place you went to is just really strict. Where in RI are you?

Haven't run in to a problem yet, but we're due for an inspection this month. I was just wondering if we should anticipate a problem. We're in the Providence area. We have a guy that's been good to us in the past so we'll hit him up and see what happens. Thanks for the feedback. I've seen some pretty huge lifts out there, too.

Have you been to Woonsocket lately? I've seen a Tacoma like yours a couple times over the last month or two.

Possibly was us you saw in Woonsocket. We frequent northern RI more so than southern.

Hubby took the taco to a place on Mineral Spring Ave in N. Prov for an inspection. Can't remember the name of the place. North Providence something-or-other. Guy started yapping saying "whoa you got a lift, you got over-sized tires, you got tint"... Dude. First off, the tint is stock and it's only on the back windows; bought it like that. The tires are 33s and pretty sure there isn't a limit on tire size in RI... Forget about it anyway. We have a guy in Pawtucket that's going to hook us up Thursday.

Be very careful if you are swapping out rims and tires.

In RI, if your vehicle was originally equipped with a TPMS system it must be functioning to pass inspection. RI is one of like two or three states (and the list is growing) that have started doing this.

I had my wheels with the TPMS sensors sitting in the bed during inspection. I'm going to do the pipe bomb thing for the sensors soon.

Ya, I'm running straps. A couple people from MA had mentioned to me to just remove the light or drive around with the light on and still others do a TPMS bypass; the truck won't pass under those circumstances in RI. If you had it, it has to be working when they inspect it. Good to know!

I don't think the TPMS shows up in the inspection report. But the place might refuse to inspect it if any dash lights are on. So maybe removing or covering the light might work.

I had heard from my local inspection station that MA will soon be adopting the TPMS rule as well. Whether or not there's truth to that statement will be decided with time I suppose.

I run TPMS in my ATs, but I don't run them in my snow tire set. I will have to make a habit of bumping up my inspection so that I can complete it while I have my TPMS sensors in place.

As far as passing with a lift, it's very similar to passing with an aftermarket exhaust in MA. I've yet to run into a problem with my car, but I know the wrong inspector on the wrong day and I could have all kinds of issues. As other members have said, shop around and hopefully you'll find someone that will let you squeak by.

I'm sure someone with experience in OBD could confirm, but I think the error would come through the computer being hooked up. If the light was removed, the error would still be in the computer I would think.
