    Reaching out to TW!!

We've got a blown front wheel bearing in the other Tacoma that I went to Moab with; we're off of I-82, just over the OR/WA border. I've got the bearing/spindle totally torn down, have a new bearing in my hands - need a press to press the new hub ...

Anyone that can help, give me a shout.

Let's keep exact position and contact info through PMs only.

    Thanks!!

    Jake

Well, found some trash bags on the side of the road by our property this morning. There where 5 bull elk heads and 11 buck heads in them. Antlers had been cut off all of them. Needless to say the game warden got a call. No way that is a legal harvest.

This stud got taken on our place yesterday.

A hi-lift isn't really going to help someone who doesn't have armor. You can use it as a hand winch or pick up a single tire (with the proper accessories), but really it won't help much without the armor.

I had the HF hi-lift, but I got rid of it. I was stuck in the snow once (past the axle), and tried to lift some of the vehicle so I could pile some snow down under the tire/remove some from around the axle. I managed to get the truck up, but the lift wouldn't go back down because the climbing pins wouldn't engage. I'm not sure if it is because they use weak springs or it is a design flaw. I eventually managed to get the lift back down by spraying the hell out of it with pb blaster, jacking it up a little and then back down a little, then finally kicking it over.
It's not worth going that cheap on something that is used as a last-ditch life saving tool.

I gotta say I completely agree with this. A real hi lift jack isn't even that much money to begin with, aren't they only like $100 or so? It's just not worth it to skimp out on something that can be so important. On my trip to Moab last week we ended up using the hi lift on two different occasions..definitely a necessity if you plan on driving a lot of road.

I might buy my co-workers. He has a 48", but is realizing that it won't work on his jeep with 35s... Max lift on the 48" 4wp one is 37"...

I've seen a few for $50.00 on craigslist but here's one on Amazon for $80 or so. Seems like a small price to pay for something that could really get you out of a sticky situation.

In regards to being more useful with body armor, is this because you don't have as many places to lift from? I was shopping for one as a quick alternative to a winch, in the way just in case tools.

Awesome. I still think the first one is the best (IMHO), but that Mustang is flat out bonkers.

    You forgot your link.

You need sliders or an armored bumper to lift from if you want to change a tire. The stock front bumper is plastic and will crumple, or deflect the jack due to its round shape. Attempting to lift off a step bar or the truck body will crumple those pieces. So on and so forth with the rear bumper as well.
You should never lift from the tow hitch. A hi-lift cannot safely support lifting more than one tire at a time.

You can still use it as a winch. Just be prepared to go full Popeye.

I winched an F-350 back on the road that slid off in a couple feet of snow with a hi-lift once...and it had a full load of wood. It was a steep pull too, but it worked. The worst part is resetting everything every few feet, that gets old.

This was exactly my train of thought. Pretty sure my stock bottle jack won't reach where it needs to reach now after the bigger wheels and tires. I keep some chunks of wood in the bed "just in case" that might help out, but I know it's not the right solution.

I don't plan on going rock crawling or anywhere I'll need sliders, and just can't justify them. I still have my stock bumpers and step bars, so...

Guess I should bust the jack out one day and try to actually jack it up and see what happens.

    Thanks Mike.
