Any tips on your opinion of the best place to live in WY, considering:

    -prefer SW corner
-in country, away from city (that should be easy)
    -near the mountains

-any particular factors I should consider?

    Thanks guys

Honestly I think the south half of wy is the worst

Lander tho is a great place I think.

What are you looking for tho otherwise? Public schools?? Other such things.

If you can afford it, pine dale is prime location for solitude but in the hills. Star valley is like a gorgeous place made up of like 5 smaller towns that's SW I guess.

Quite honestly I think the best place would be just outside of town, south of Lander. Lander is an awesome small town and IMO nothing like it's northern neighbor, Riverton.

It's nicely 'centralized' so it's a short (for WY haha) trip to all the good places... which is pretty much the entire state.

It's also regarded as one of the top small/mountain/adventure towns in the country.

Here's a panoramic looking south on a 6 acre lot about 8 miles south of Lander I was considering purchasing for $30k

Laramie is my second choice because it's close to Colorado haha. If Laramie is 'too big', might want to check out Saratoga too, west of Laramie on the other side of the Snowies.

yea stay away from Riverton due to the reservation. Nothing agains the Indian folks, but i have friends there and its just not a great place.

also avoid Rawlins, Rock Springs, and Evanston. Or really anything on the Interstate. Id also stay away from Kemmerer.

    Dubois might be another option.

Or come up by me :D Powell and Cody are great. I think Powell is a bit better due to location and the tourist season isn't near as bad as Cody is...which is horrible there as is Jackson.

Lander and Pindale i think you'd like tho. Land in Pinedale tho is pricey..hell everything there is. Lot of rich fold there...like Jackson.

    Jon...buy it..do it..please haha

Believe me, I was going to! I even had an offer for a job transfer to Riverton but I didn't take it because the hours weren't good for daycare.:frusty:

All this Riverton hate!! I agree, its not a "great place" but it has been great for us so far living down by the country club in a quiet neighborhood. I thought about living in lander and commuting but that would just turn into a whole lotta gas and miles on my truck. My fiance commutes to Pavillion to teach and has nothing but good things to say about the school and people in it :) I dont know a lot about the rest of the state but I'm happy for now.

I'd go 255/85s man. You'll just regret not going with 33s.

And why skinnier?? Haha with the 255/85s I don't think the power loss with be too bad. They are like a 9.25x33.3

    Amd good call on OME.

I feel like a jerk, ha. I asked a question, you guys answered, and I never saw these. I will definitely take this all into account. That panoramic looks perfect for me! And 30k seems like a good price. I'm not looking for public schools, or anything. Literally wanting to be in the country, away from towns (still close enough to resupply this and that) but pretty much self sustaining. Bringing some family and growing own food, building (or buying them modifying) a pretty self sustaining home and kicking it old school :D.
I say SW simply because that's the region I'm looking at and I like that it is close to so many state parks and mountain ranges. I love to be close to the mountains and want to live near-ish to them.

Keep in mind this is still all a pipe dream and could change to anywhere in the general region, WY, CO, UT or even SD through KS. I just really like that spot (geographically) in the plains, in SW WY, between the mountians.

Lander, pinedale, Jackson, cody, Powell, Laramie are probably the best bets to be close to mountains and parks.

    Thank you sir

I hate "researching" what some website has to say about places when I can talk to the people who live there. This really does help. Hopefully this dream is fulfilled sooner rather than later.

I liked Kemmerer, it's a rougher town but not a bad place, and not full of indians like Riverton which I'll totally agree with you there. Nothing like Riverton walmart for a good sight seeing tour. Actually I really love the area around Kemmerer.

Kinda funny I don't really care for the east side of the state but like north west and south west.

Naturally I'm from Kemmerer and Rock Springs. I like Star Valley too but Alpine is a little too touristy/gimmicky with the trickle of shit heads coming from Jackson.

Lander and Pinedale are gorgeous, my cousins have a cabin right on Fremont, and our family friends have a cabin in town. So much fun. I love pinedale and theres some awesome dirt roads to explore around there and so much other shit. I would live in Evanston but I'd avoid RS unless a job takes you there. Rawlins, ah hell naw. I'd do Casper though. Tensleep and greybull and all those towns would probably be alright too, nice and close to the Big Horns which are a lot of fun to explore as well. Sheridan is a great place too, along with Buffalo but nothing east of them.

Jackson is beautiful but you can hardly count it as Wyoming.

I'd buy a cabin north of Kemmerer if I could. Or somewhere out of LaBarge or something.
