New Owner of a 2001 Tacoma

Hello-
My name is Dan, i'm a BMW service advisor here in Oregon. However, I'm starting to feel like I buy every damn Toyota that gets traded in on a new BMW. Idiots. I have BMW's as well but they don't break because I daily drive Toyotas!
I have a 1999 4runner 5-speed and now this..

2001 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 TRD 4-door. Auto, 120k miles.

I love it, best decision I ever made was selling my hard top and buying this. Easy to put up, take down etc. Doesn't leak unless I powerwash it and is lighter than my hard top was.

$629 was base price on mine, I bought it through a group buy and paid less. A new shell is over $1000 most of the time and takes a few people to take on and off. Storage is a bitch as well. If security is not an issue it is less expensive and more convenient.

Also in my case trying to find a used shell for a crew cab was a joke, I found one and wasn't that happy with it.

If your ever up here just let me know when your coming and you can come take a look at it. Happy to show you the features in person, I wish I could have done that before buying but I don't regret getting it without seeing one first.

If my memory serves me correctly Bestop does not make one for the crew cab 1st gens. I could be wrong though, I believe it is Softopper or CanBak and CanBak is expensive as hell and doesn't go down. You can mount a rack on a CanBak though.

Thanks!
So far in the past 5 days, I've flushed coolant, and differential + t-case. Oil and filter change. Tightened the Alt. Belt and SCRUBBED the heck out of the interior.
Next- Plugs, Wires and a timing belt (as I didn't receive and records with the truck).

I just got a White 2001 TRD DoubleCab 4x4 myself last Saturday with 157,000+ miles on it. Drove it from California to Washington and got 22 MPG HWY. Before i left California, i got the timing belt, serpentine belts, all the fluids in the engine bay and driveline changed, and new General Grabber HTS tires for it. She runs really smooth now. I'm thinking of replacing the shocks but not sure when that needs to be done. The ride was really harsh on the POS tires previously on it. I also installed a reverse camera on it and got a free Snugtop Canopy from my Uncle.

Planning on upgrading to keyless entry soon ($150 installed at Bestbuy) and order a TRUCK N BUDDY foldable step ramp for the tailgate so that my Saint Bernard (not big on jumping) can make it into the bed without my help.

I'll take some pics and post them later.

Nice!

I called a friend of mine at the local Yota dealer and he said this truck has lots of features listed on the build sheet but no factory keyless entry??? So i'll go the aftermarket route as well.
Strange that my 99 4-runner stripper (non limited) has keyless.

My 04 had keyless entry and I then opted to install a alarm with remote start and keyless entry etc. Too bad that stuff is so intricate that you can't just remove that feature/piece and sell it when you don't need it.
