Driving through Oregon and down the coast in early September. Anyone have any hidden gem camp spots? Or must see destinations?

Going to camp with wife and 1 year old in the truck.

Florence is cool. So is Winchester Bay, Coos Bay. How far down you planning to go?

My wife and I did a little drive to the coast a few weeks ago and did something I've been trying to do since I found out about it.

We got on the beach in Gearhart and drove up to Ft. Stevens. I always wanted to see the shipwreck. We drove @ 35 MPH, people were going faster and slower and did it in a little less then an hour. I think it's a 20 mile drive.

Worth it if you've never done it IMO. Ft. Stevens itself was pretty neat if you're into military history. U.S. versions of bunkers and coastal defense.

A thanks guys lots of good tips there.

Hoping to drive the entire coast north to south. Have a couple weeks and want to do short legs and enjoy.

The free camp sites website looks interesting. How were the campsites? Pretty busy?

Driving the beach looks fun. How was it Roscoh? Pretty firm sand? I just have stock Bridgestone duelers on my sport. Any troubles digging in?

I stuck to the damp sand, makes it pretty near the consistency of concrete.

You'll see a lot of people out there in just about anything that drives, even though it's marked for 4x4 only. Didn't really have any issues until I tried to get onto a dune, but I'm not stubborn enough to keep trying, just flipped on the 4 wheel drive and backed out the way I came in.

Our plan the next time out is to find a spot away from the other folks. Pop up an awning, start a fire, put up some chairs and spend a few hours.

And now, the short answer, no, I don't think you'll have any problems.

The dunes near Florence are amazing. Honeyman is our go-to campground in the summer. Harris Beach in Brookings just north of the border is pretty sweet as well.
