Tobacco Roots mountain range has a lot of good trails which wouldn't be too far out of your way. Good book on trails throughout a good chunk of this wonderful state; http://montana4x4trails.com

not only may there be snow but access to the morrison/goose areas may be closed. last fall the beartooth highway - which is the only way to get to the north end of morrison - was closed in mid september. and the road to goose may be inaccessible too. it all depends how quick winter sets in. if you want to be up that high i'd suggest moving the trip up a month.

Everything above 8000' will most likely be closed due to snow that late. Gotta come sooner.

Do they close down the entrance from clark? Talk about some major balls to take on the switchbacks with a good bit of snow.

Not even sure I'd want to try it with a touch of snow..

But yes there is a gate at the base they close off and at the top.

And goose has a gate too

We are more inline with the jet stream off the pacific so more weather sooner.

If you can't move the dates then I'd plan some alternate, lower elevation, routes just in case. No point in coming all this way and not being able to get to the trails.
FWIW this is just outside of Cooke City (last stop before Goose Lake) last October. Granted, we had some early snow everywhere but Cooke ALWAYS gets early snow. THere's a reason its the snowmobile mecca of MT. I was less than 1/2 mile from the highway here and had already run into 3" of snow. The road keeps climbing and the snow keeps getting deeper

I come out here quite often. Mainly fly fishing. Family has a place near Cameron in the Madison Valley I spend most of my time at.

Cameron is a good spot, my old man lives in Ennis. Have you noticed any bulls still holding there headgear down your way?
