So there is a truck that I FINALLY found that has the options I want, and the dude is skirting around giving me the VIN # and getting it inspected by a dealership...claiming he can't afford it with a SOB story about his mom in the hospital...no clue if it's a lie or real but if he's not willing to give a VIN #...yet, then I want someone to see it. It's in Washington, and I am in Arkansas...

Sounds like a scam or stolen with missing VIN.

I typically offer to pay for the inspection and have it taken where I want it inspected. If they don't agree, I walk.

Yeah that's tough being a distance away. If the owner was being more legit, yeah I would have tried taking a look at it for you and getting it taken in for inspection. I'm sure many of the other guys would have done the same - we care about making sure to take care of another (future) taco driver.

If a seller is not willing to give out a VIN, then my advice is always to run like hell far, far away.
