I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

I'm with you on the FREE spots I know of a great spot off Jackson Meadows HW right a crossed form the Bear Valley trail. And it should be interesting getting in there in June 4x4 only on this road.

This is the spot and all we need is a fire permit. But no bathrooms and not showers sorry ladies this is roughing it.

Well you couldn't of passed it because there is only one way in and one way out if you seen it you have to leave the same way you came in. But it's awesome I have been going to camping here for nearly 30 years it's by far my favorite place to camp I go at least three times a year.

This is the lake were scattering my dads ashes :( so we can camp with him the rest of our lives.

Count us in seth. being that we live here! For those looking to go but need to save cash on the campgrounds, let me know. We are staying at Dog Valley and although there are no showers, you are on dirt OHV roads from roughly Reno - Truckee (40miles) and it connects just before highway 89 to Bear Valley, passes 3 dams and 2 lakes, and it a great run.

Also we are set up as an expo / overland rig so we have on board hot showers, fridge, stove, and so on. Dont mind sharing for a small group.

Updated the list..... I will post a more precise wheeling schedule as we get closer.

Anyone interested in trying eagle lakes instead of bear valley on friday? Since we already did bear valley in november.

Fine with me. The campground has about 30 sites and the one we have is surrounded by 5 others kind of like a star shape, so there is plenty of privacy, and we have a fire permit so we can have a big fire for sure.

Here is the route from the campground up to crystal peak ( a crystal mine you can collect crystals for free and do some wheeling, and then the fire roads to get to truckee / 89.

Ya it's 1st come but usually it's open. I can hold sites also. It's free to stay. But you need a fire permit if restrictions are up. I won't know until march when it opens up for restriction again.

That looks like Granite Lake (I recognize the rock in the foreground). The 4x4 camping spots are huge and far apart, awesome! My friend went back with some others and they had a nasty accident on that hill which required 3 to be life-flighted out of there to Reno (and totaled their jeep). Amazing they all survived. He said he heard that they closed it off after that accident. You'll have to let me know if that's true or not. Wish I'd saved the pics from when I was there and from their accident. Lesson for them and jeeps was not to turn off the vehicle on the hill without good brakes because it disengages the transfer case and rolls freely.

Doh! That's right, White Rock Lake. I keep calling it by the wrong name! Guess I'm getting too old.

Yeah, that hill in the back was steep! I got out partway up and ended up on my ass. Felt like a 45 degree angle!

You know, this::eek: has a striking similarity to your avatar.:D

So are you talking about the hill going up Lola? If so that's crazy it's more like a 75 degree angle maybe more. They closed that hill to all OHV's foot traffic only now.

Anyway it's the best camping ever I love it. My grandpa and his best friend found the lake back in the 70's wile deer hunting on horses. There was no road into the lake back then so they came back in the spring and made a trail in by cutting down trees. Now with the logging roads you can get a RV to the dam side of the lake I still go down the old road sometimes it brings back memory's. It's still my favorite place to camp in the summer.

Setting it up more expedition style but wont be sleeping in the rigs, prob going to just use hammocks. We will have a truck mattress just in case we decide we wanna relax more lol.

Most of our kit can be removed from the truck so we can be a little more mobile but wont leave it there during the runs.

No just staying there and driving over to the runs via that route. It only takes about 25-35 minutes to do the whole route but is really fun because its not a highway. DV road is a great road for getting to the best trails without having to run on the freeway and tons of the locals use it because they are geared so aggressive or dont want to have to air up then down then up
