Can you take a lifted prerunner to tahoe?

Whats up guys, planing in going snowboarding this friday up to boreal. usually try to plan my trips on clear days, but this time looks like snow on thurs-sunday. Do you think i could manage to get up hwy80 in a prerunner? I have nitto terra grapplers and a 3" lift. If i remember correctly boreal is right off 80 so uncleared non hwy roads shouldnt be a huge prob. Any input will help, thanks!

 

you shouldnt have any problem. was up there 10 days ago, i drove through a damn blizzard...and when leaving tahoe, take north upper truckee road to the 50, and you bypass the huge line of cars for chain inspection.

 

Boreal is directly off I80. You can probably make it without a problem. I would at the least carry cables and put them on if you go through a chain control checkpoint. You may get through with the lift and telling them its in 4WD when they ask at the checkpoint but if things go bad and you get in an accident, CHP will cite you for failure to comply and anything else they can get. They have no sense of humor in the snow. I80 is the only route to Boreal from sacramento without going through Lake Tahoe

I have a '10 prerunner, just carry chains, i had to use mine several times over the winter. 80 is usually fine, road to northstar sucks sometimes

 

i think jerry drive for hours in a snow storm in 2wd and never broke traction , just go slow and steady not sudden braking and gas you'll be fine

 

A little late guys but yes i did go over Donner summit in 2wd with 10" of packed snow on the ground last Christmas but I do have 12.5" wide DuraTracks
