Bahaha, let's have none of that now! Hey, you forgot to add me to the list on page 1!!! I'm off the internet for 15 hours and already at the bottom of page 2 on the thread!

My daughter's going, but the wife's not. I'm thinking of setting my fronts to 1.75 and to hell with the front diff grind. I'm thinking the techs at the dealership aren't going to feel it now unless I raise it up and put some more pressure on that needle bearing. Who know, it might just be a leftover rough surface on the CV Axle from the last front diff. So I just need to raise it up before June to give me that extra little bit of clearance.

I already have the diff drop sitting on my toolbox. I put it on over a year ago when I installed the 5100's and had the dreaded front diff vibe (due to a bad roller needle bearing...which is plaguing the Tacomas now). That's why I'm so experienced with the 5100s, I installed them at 1.75 and had a horrible vibe (it was so loud, you could hear it over the radio...what a horrible grinding sound!), so then I put them back to .85 and still had the vibe (but not as bad). I then installed a diff drop which decreased it more but the vibe was still there. In June last year, I had Toyota put in a new front diff which took care of it. But I recently took the diff drop off and have the vibe again which tells me one of either two things: 1. Another bad roller bearing in the front diff, or 2. I should have replaced the CV Axle last year when they swapped out the front diff. We've been learning on the forums that a bad bearing can scar the CV Axle which will continue to cause a vibe even if the axle still looks/feels perfect. Since the vibe came back when I removed the diff drop, I'm thinking it's probably the CV Axle. But why take chances? I need the techies at the dealership to diagnose it again, but I'm not sure they'll feel it. And if I raise it to 1.75, they might balk. So I'm thinking of talking to my friend that I deal with that's my service adviser and tell him my plan of raising it up so they can hear it. If they warranty the front diff again, he said they'll install a new CV Axle for me at no labor cost (just cost of the part). If I were more knowledgeable or experienced, I'd just replace the CV Axle myself and see if that's the cause of the vibe this time. But it's a little more advanced (I think) than what I can do.

mine are at 1.75 and I havent had any problems:confused: ...I thought you only needed a diff drop if you go over 3 inches. I will be going up to 2.5 soon and will put the diff drop on just to be safe
