rebuilding icon coilovers

Hey Guys,

I've had icon coilovers sitting in my garage forever I need a new top plate for one and both of them rebuilt. I do not want to ship them to icon. Has anyone gotten there coil overs rebuilt at a local shop near san jose. Thanks

Theres a video on youtube made by King on how to rebuild. They claim it to be easy, don't know if I'd try it though.

 

This. You open the shock. You take out the worn parts. You replace them with new parts from a kit in the reverse order. You refill the shock with oil. You close the shock.

That's about it. If you have an hour to kill on a Saturday and the correct tools, you're in business. There's no sense in paying shop time and shipping to do this.

Coilovers leak typically because O-rings/seals are worn from use and letting oil and/or nitrogen out of the shock. You can re-valve while inside the C/O if you want, but if you're just rebuilding because the C/Os are blown and the tuning suits you fine, then there's no need to mess with the valving.

So really, all this is is replacing seals.

Thanks for posting all this info. Will rebuild my icons at home too. No need to waste the cash and send them in if it's that easy!
