An eventful day of putting the rigs to the test. Learned an important lesson was learned today. Foremost, Never let Eric lead haha!! Guess this is the thread to post all your pictures and videos.

Quite a few people's first time out on the trails today and I hope everyone had a good time!

You let Eric lead? How the hell did that happen? Did you tie a King Egg Roll on a stick in front of his truck or what?

Hahaha!! No, he's been there before... So what's he do? Takes us up one of the hardest trails first. Not to mention he went west on 580 instead of east...

Well, I took the grill out, loosened the AC core and the shroud, hosed the crap out of the radiator and cores, idled the truck for 20 minutes and it seemed fine, heater is not blowing hot, drove it, temp shoots straight up, checked all heater fuses and relays, nada wrong, I'm thinking thermostat now. Any ideas or suggestions?

That would be consistent with thermostat failure, but I'm hard pressed to say why a day of wheeling in the mud would cause the thermostat to fail??

OK, pulled the thermostat, now the heater blows hot and the engine is staying cool, cooler than before, time to put another one in. When it over heated on the altamont pass, it fused the shaft of the thermostat, it wouldn't move at all.

not sure where you got yours but i've found most vatozone thermostates fail after one or two over-heating sessions. Dealer units can handle a few more and are only a couple extra bucks.

Ya know what though, I was a bitch to get out, it would have been a PITA to do that on the side of the freeway

I think it's the original one, 93K, the parts in that thing are made of malleable metals that constantly expand and contract, probably coulda used a new one anyways. I just ran it up on the freeway, it's ataying about ten degrees cooler with out it in there.

Everyone was awesome, the weather was great, and having pushed my Tacoma farther than I ever have, I am impressed with how much heart this truck has, I looked at that first hill and thought, 'no effin way', but I didn't want to be the guy who doesn't make it so i had to try. Without a locker and on the relatively mild wranglers, A little planning and willingness to try other lines paid off. I learned the importance of planning your line and getting a running start, of keeping you tires attached to the ground and moving you forwards and not getting too excited, feel the truck be one with the truck.:D

Sand dunes are a different ball of wax, you also have to plan your lines, get a running head start but more importantly, know what is on the other side of that dune before you go over at speed, a twenty foot drop is bound to do damage. Other things to keep in mind, turning....well turning is kinda fun, think of turning as changing directions while surfing, at last but not least, when in doubt, RPMs, RPMs and if need be, more RPMs.
